Should be all Panasonic dealers?, it's an offer from Panasonic, not the dealer. Sony also do the same offer on most of their range as well, through Domestic & General just like Panasonic.

So would you recommend buying one before 24th Dec to get the 5 yr guarantee or will waiting for sales be better in the long run saving me more money?

If you're getting a Plasma, definitely go for the 5 year guarantee! - but read the small print as well (like if the set is replaced your insurance is voided).

PANASONIC TH50PX70

I expect the next price drops will be Easter time when the new ranges will be brought out. John Lewis offer a 5 year guarantee with all their tv's. I quote:
"If you have purchased a television, your service guarantee is automatically 5 years in total, or 3 years for a John Lewis large electrical domestic appliance. These are also subject to the following.

This additional service guarantee provides :

A repair service in the event of breakdown of any functioning part of your product, for the period stated by the John Lewis guarantee.
We'll provide the repair service without charge up to a cost equal to the original purchase price paid for the product.
All repair services are provided by authorised service technicians.
If we decide your product cannot be repaired, or is uneconomical to repair, we'll replace it with the same model. If it's no longer available, we'll discuss an alternative settlement with you.
Occasionally, we may ask you to pay for the repair and claim the cost of the repair from us.."

I'm thinking about getting the Dixons £1,033.60 deal PANASONIC TH50PX70.

Do I assume when it's delivered I have to send off for the 5 year guarantee, as it has the papers inside the box to apply?

Also, I wanted a wall bracket for this TV. Since I don't know the general price of how much wall brackets are should I purchase the one from Dixons (Omnimount OMU3FEU).

Should any wall bracket fit or is there a specific bracket for the TH50PX70. Is there a better wall bracket for less?

Because the Panasonic range is so well known for reliability problems unlike Sony!!!! (Nigels normal have adig at Panasonic/Plasma coming through there!)

Worth having as its a freebie guarantee from independant Panasonic dealers only, backed by Panasonic. Probably the same terms/conditions as the Sony 5 year.

As I mentioned in a previous thread, according to a rep who came the other day, Panasonic (along with other Plasma sets) have a large failure rate of PDP's in their sets. This is what causes most Plasma's to be scrapped, so a free 5 year guarantee is certainly a GOOD idea.

Considering the cost of repairs to either LCD or Plasma it's a good idea anyway, but particularly so for Plasma.

As far as I know it's exactly the same terms, and it's certainly through exactly the same insurance company.

A rep from where?
Sony, Sharp or another maily LCD brand!!!??

I will happily accept that cheep plama arte not at the level of reliability they should be, but neither are the cheep LCD's.
In the 7-8 years I've been selling the Panasonic sets (along with Philips & Sony a few years ago) We've only seen 1 or 2 with screen failure.

We have had fantastic reliability on the panasonic range of plasma for over 7-8 years. If they were that unreliable would they have by the truck load hung up as display monitors in the 24hr tesco's. The one round the corner has had them up 4-5 years running monday morning til saturday 10pm and I have bever seen one not working or missing.

No, a rep from a company selling spares, not a manufacturer at all, and with no agenda either way.

All I can do is repeat what he said, which is also my experience (although not with Panasonic) - PDP panel failure is fairly common, and he said that every Panasonic dealers he visits are changing lots of duff PDP's.

So far I've scrapped 6 Plasma's because of PDP failure, and no LCD's - and we've probably sold 99% LCD's and only 1% Plasma. This isn't to say I don't change LCD panels, but so far any failures have been under guarantee - but even counting them, I've probably changed more PDP's while under guarantee as well.

Yes, buy a Panasonic Plasma and enjoy the picture.

Don't listen to people bang on about screen failure, the Panasonic is as robust a TV as you will get.

does this guarantee count 'burn-in' as a fault?

no, not usually as it would be considered your fault for leaving images on

That's correct, the guarantee will specifically exclude screen burn.

the only problem i found with the JL warranty is they may ask you to pay for repair costs, then claim the cost back.

the panasonic and sony warranty is underwritten by D&G so is identicle. but yes if your screen is replaced, the warranty is void

Not if the screen is replaced, only if the entire TV is replaced - just like with a car, if they write the car off the insurance is voided.

provding its set-up correctly you dont get this issue with the last gen panasonic and pioneer panels.

you may get a bit of retention but screen burn is not an issue.

get the PX70 and enjoy mate - its a cracking set

to be honest if you going for a plasma - you cant go wrong with either a panny or a pioneer.
