Which of these T.V's?

Hi everyone, I am looking to upgrade from my (awful) 37" Philips tv in the next month or so and was looking for some feedback on the 2 new sets I have narrowed my selection down to. I would especially like to hear from people who own either of the T.V's or has some hands on experience of them.
The 2 I have chosen are:

1. Sharp Aquos LC42XD10E

2. Panasonic TH-42PZ70BA

Both sets seem rather evenly matched, I have read that anything over 40" you should go for Plasma (Panasonic) rather than LCD (Sharp)
I do not have Sky HD so am looking for a decent SD picture, I will be connecting a Samsung DVD-HD870 upscaling DVD player, an Xbox 360 and Sky+ (Until Sky HD offers more value for money)
Thanks for your help.

the sharp is a great set but is quite deep for a flatscreen((5 1/4" deep) also ""Full" HD plus will take a computer feed, plus no glass front ,so no reflections from sun/room lights also its lighter, and uses less electricity.
Sharp now have a"flatter" screen out, but of course dearer.
However you will get load of posts saying get the Panny.
Its really up to you-see both what do you prefer?

Yeah, to be honest I am slightly favouring the Sharp for some of the reasons you mention (and its £300 cheaper).
Thankyou for your advice.

What model is the "awful" Philips 37" TV??
Whilst Philips LCD's have several shortcomings their one plus point on all but their basic models is usually SD performance from any source. IMHO from what I have seen only Panasonic and Sharp come anywhere near on SD.

i'm an aerial and sky installer, when I decided to go from a Sony 28" CRT tv to a flatscreen I made sure I did my homework.

I looked at all the tv's my customers had, using Sky, analog, freeview and dvd where possible. I had sky+ at the time so I wanted the best SD picture possible.

1 make of tv stood out every time. Samsung.

The SD picture on sky and terrestrial is outstanding. I decided to go for the PS42c7HDX Plasma (old model which is now a PS42C97HDX) and I cannot fault the picture quality at all.

I see 50 tv's a week or more and connect a range of devices to them. I've seen shocking results on "high end" tv's that I couldnt bear to watch.

Unfortunately, people get suckered into watching the HD demo's in the shop and when they get home and connect their own equipment they can understand why the picture isnt as good.
