I just heard from the sales at Tiscali that pvr - or Tiscali+ - is now live for sale. It's £50 as a one-off fee apparently. I can recommend it from my trial!

Just rang them up and YES it is available, but only if your exchange runs on the I.P network which unfortunately mine does not, its on the ATM network.

All exchanges will be upgraded to the I.P network over the next 12 months so depending on where you live you may have to wait a while still

What if your an original Homechoice customer? I tried logging in with my Homechoice primary email details and that just re-directed me to the homechoice account page showing me my member accounts, email address and webspace details. No option to add Tiscali +

Cant say i'm too impressed, still no Hi Def!

And this bit is no good to me:

To multi record you will need to have a TV aerial connected to your set-top box and be able to receive digital terrestrial television through that aerial. Please check at www.dtg.org.uk/consumer/coverage.html to confirm if you can receive all or some of the digital terrestrial TV channels. If you cannot receive the digital terrestrial channels you will be able to record and view 1 channel at a time.

The reason i got Homechoice in the first place is because i can't have a dish and freeview reception where i am is terrible.
Not paying £50 to record/watch just one channel, got an old vcr for that.

Shame

Spoke to CS.

She said ex-HC customers will have to be 'upgraded' to a Telsey box first. This will be happening in January and they will be calling us.

Can confirm, I also just spoke to CS. They confirmed, that Old Homechoice customers cannot upgrade to the new packages (i.e. the ones with line rental included), or retrieve the new set top box, until around the end of the year or early Janurary - and we will be contacted regarding both issues. So it does look like they will be transferring all homechoice customers over to the new packages.

I only signed up to tiscali a few days ago, and there was no option on the website for a +box. I hope they can install it as part of my initial setup, would be brilliant to go from a freeview pvr to a tiscali pvr. With the added functionality of series link this could be a great time for Tiscalis TV service

I've sent an email to cs, so i'll let you know what they reply with

forgive me but does that mean you have to have Freeview with this PVR to record two channels at the same time.

So basically it's as good as a DVD Recorder or an old VHS Recorder LOL

Excuse me Tiscali, but you are supposed to be IPTV - not a freeview repackaging a la BT Vision, so why are you providing a recording service that does less than VideoPlus did with analogue TV????

Oh the good old days, when I could watch one channel and record another - I guess that's just too advanced for the 21st century?!

Guess what, some of your loyal customers joined your service because our freeview reception is crap - did that never cross your tiny little minds???

Sort yourselves out, for goodness sake. Hint: all the channels should come down THE WIRE into a nice little dual-tuner IPTV RECORDER. Not bloody rocket science is it? So much for the long-awaited PVR, more like DOA. Plonkers.

Why don't they give me the ability to record ten channels at once? Two is crap.

Oh yes, I forgot, its impossible with only one ADSL. That must be Tiscali's fault. As is your inability to receive freeview.
Why don't you move house?

I don't see how there would be enough bandwidth to send 2 channels down the ASDL line in anycase. Anyway, apparently it has 2 freeview tuners, as well as the normal ADSL one which means you can record 3 channels at once! £50 is a pretty good deal, it's cheaper than Sky or Virgin, so I upgraded today and am being installed Monday!
