what is your problem anyway? Anyone has a bad word to say about tiscali you have to get your oar in Peter. Wish I was on your commission to sit at the PC all day - but some of us have real work to do

Bet you're a tiscali plant and gonna suspend my account now - guess what: it's not even mine, so do whatever you like. So pray tell me what is the point of tiscali if it's just pimped freeview? If I'd have wanted decent freeview, I'd have moved house, but I don't! I don't spend my life watching qvc and the hits. (It's ONE channel I can record, by the way, and I have to be watching it too - yes your company is so innovative, congratulations!) And yes I do know how ADSL works, and nope, still not impressed. It's still rubbish!

Freeview is free. Getting a PVR that can record it was well is a bonus - we didn't get that before so why are you whining about it now that (most people) can get it. You can't get freeview (probably until switch over), well .. tough.

I want HD more than anything, but adding rewind etc means I'll watch less Freeview by my Tivo and more Tiscali via its PVR.

Complain about lack of HD by all means, but stop complaining about an added, bonus, free function.

LOL at the rant.

But it's not free is it, it's £50.(Actually not a bad price it pains me to say!)

Bottom line is the long talked about and promised HD PVR (that i'm sure is the only reason a lot of us have stuck with Homechoice) is nothing more than a bloody freeview box with dual tuners, not only that but half of us can't even have one if you want one because you may be on the wrong exchange, load of bollocks if you ask me

Perhaps one day they will upgrade to ADSL2+ and provide these long promised services?

Whoever gets this can you let us know how it is. I think i'm gonna be without. Not worth it for me without HD output. That and the fact that i don't want to pay to get a pvr which really wont provide me much extra, and a 12 month subscription which i can't necessarily honour.

I ordered the TV service (I'm a new customer to Tiscali) two days before the plus service was announced, so had no chance to ask for the new PVR. My old PVR is on its last legs so I thought I'd try and get the PVR added to my order so only one engineer has to visit, should be simple right, wrong. Today I've spoken to 6 Tiscali departments, all of which just kept passing me around. Eventually I asked to speak to a supervisor, only to be told, that because my order is in the system it can't be changed, and further more, if I want the plus box, I can't upgrade my service for a month!!!!!

That's right, no matter how hard I try to give Tiscali some of my money for the box, and save them the cost of sending two engineers, they can't do it. The engineers not coming for a week, surely they can just swap the box he's installing.

The world of Tiscali is a crazy place

Surely there is a cooling off period of ten days when you can cancel and the re-order?

Does anyone know if this box has a HDMI output? if it does it should be HD ready, the hard disc would allow cacheing if your line is not up to it.

Apologies for the rant against Peter and tiscali, it was not intended to be about any of the employees, who are for the most part very helpful. I am just not such a great mood at the moment, especially as my TV seems to have stopped working altogether - did you have something to do with that Peter? (joke!).

I do understand that they can only send one channel down the line at a time and that this is a limitation of ADSL bandwidth. Is it theoretically possible that they will be able to send two channels at once if the encoding becomes efficient enough and they have enough bandwidth, just like they are planning to send HD? I'm guessing bandwidth limitations also have something to do with the lack of subtitles/teletext/interactive.

I don't hate tiscali, I actually think it's quite a good service all things considered, but I do worry about it going down the Freeview line to the extent that one day it might only offer VOD over ADSL rather than the main channels - and that worries me because I think my ADSL reception will always be better than Freeview due to building density in my area, and IPTV is a unique technology with a lot of growth potential. We can see this already happening with tiscali advertising channels that are actually not delivered down the wire (eg +1s), rather than negotiating ADSL rights for them. I hope tiscali continues to champion IPTV as its main content delivery system.

No problem

They put Freeview in there because its free, basically, why waste the bandwidth if you don't have to. I expect all PVR's will have Freeview in future, except Sky I expect. I make sense and I doubt its even BT's idea - more likely a standard thing by PVR makers.

As I've said before, hopefully this PVR will be able to act as a buffer for HD content even before ADSL2+ comes out. ADSL2+ isn't a solution for everything because the speed goes down with disatnce and half the people won't have the bandwidth for Live HD-TV. I guy I work with has Be's nominally 21Mbit service and he gets 1Mbit down, in Poplar, London.

I already have Tiscali TV and have upgraded to the PVR, I did it online and was offered an installation for 2 days later. I can't see how it would be any different for you once you have been installed first time. It's daft they can't do it on the first visit, but i don't see why you would have to wait a month afterwards.

I've had my PVR aka Tiscali+ since Saturday. I can't receive Freeview, so I have to reply on the PVR to record. I set it to record whilst I was out on Saturday, and it was fine. Up to 50 hours permitted. I wanted to record something else last night but I have to view the same channel whilst recording - which I think is a bit daft. So I have to switch over to analogue and watch 1-5 otherwise it wont record (I get an error message DSL clash). It does indeed have a HDMI connection available, and when I enquired from Cust Servs about HD I was told it's going through the final stages of testing and it should be with us in approx 6 months. We shall see .....

Hi everyone..... I like many am an EX HOMECHOICE Tiscali customer.... my experiance of HC/Tiscali has been nothing but good, over the last 3 years, until recently when I had a little issue which they let me down on... but anyway I spoke to my cust services dept and was assured the following:

-As a HC customer I will not have to pay a SET UP fee to migrate to the NEW Tiscali platform... however will need a new 12 month contract
-I WILL be able to keep my HC email addy so I don't have to tell new ones/companies etc a new email address
-I CAN get tiscali + tv box and free router

I have started the process and will let you know if Tiscali keep the above promises... I can for-see trouble though. I would bet money that they charge me a SET UP fee

Try logging into the Tiscali "My Account" area of the website, it should be available there

Can anyone tell me pls, the tiscali person told me the NEW box comes with a free router... but I already have a router set up I really don't wanna change all the settings, when I unplug the origional HC box can I just plug the new Tiscali box into my origional router to keep the same settings etc?

If you already have Tiscali TV, they will literally just switch the set top box for the PVR set top box and you will keep the same router. It's really straight forward

Could someone who has the new PVR box confirm something for me? Firstly, does the telephone line go into the PVR as with the old Homechoice STB, or does the telephone line now go into the router first, which then connects to the PVR via Ethernet?

The router that comes with th STB is an essential part of the setup. You will not be able to get the TV with out it.

The router connects to the phone line and the STB is connected to the router.

But surely one router is the same as another router. I really don't fancy changing the wireless network details for my mac, laptop, wii and DS and then having to set up my wireless printer on my mac and laptop again (a very frustrating job)..... I am beginning to regret this upgrading to new Tiscali thigny :S
