HELP! Trying to Identify 80s Kids Programme with a Reindeer

Seeing the other "what was this programme called?" thread reminded me...

I spent years trying to find or at least identify a programme I watched one summer holiday, probably early to mid 80s. I had forgotten all about it and given up hope until just now, when it occurred to me that someone here might also remember it.

It was about a boy in Lapland (or Finland, or Norway... somewhere Arctic Circley anyway) who was walking a reindeer to the airport to put him on a plane to Paris where he was going to the zoo to live (the reindeer, not the boy). The boy lost the plane ticket in the snow, so had to walk to Paris with the reindeer. Thinking back, it seems completely illogical, and I have no idea why he couldn't go home, or why the zoo didn't send proper keeper to collect him... but ANYWAY. Plot = boy + reindeer walking from Arctic Circle to Paris with no money, no food and no transport. The boy was wearing a hat with earflaps and one of those black and white jumpers like A-Ha used to wear, and that is ALL I remember, except that I adored the programme.

Ring any bells with anyone?

I'm sure I know the boy's name... it's on the tip of my tongue... I KNOW I know it somewhere. It's something a bit girly, like Mika, or Sasha, or Nika... but not those...

It's driving me CRAZY now I'm thinking about it. Googling "walk to Paris" with "reindeer" isn't getting me anywhere.

Going by the suggestions for the name I can only think of Mio In The Land Of Faraway, but I don't think that's it. I don't think there are reindeer in it, and it's got nowt to do with Paris either!

Did anything actually happen along the way, like an exciting story of losing some sort of key or magical 'shroom?!

Or was it literally just showing this boy walking to Paris with his reindeer?!

And was it cartoon or live-action?

Lol. I'm sure they had adventures along the way, but I don't remember anything too wacky. It was live action, and I think it was dubbed.

OH! I've just remembered the boy's name. It was Ossian, so NOTHING like Mika or Sasha etc. Oh dear.

Is it me, or does that link go somewhere completely different?

Edit: ignore me, I copied and pasted, and no, it wasn't that. Thank you though.

If it makes you feel any better, my husband remembers it too and we were both kids in the 80s so it's not your imagination
I recall a boy with Russian sounding name and a reindeer although I can't really remember the plot. Think the opening titles showed the boy gathering food for the reindeer!!!!!

If all other means fail you - including Google (heaven forfend, that NEVER happens, does it?), then mooch around on TV Cream for the answers you seek;

"THEME TUNE... Went “la la loi lo, la la loi lo”, apparently.
PRINCIPAL CAST... A Boy. From Lapland. Remember that, it’s quite important.
'VILLAINOUS' FIGURE... Not as such; this was more of a light-hearted culture clash.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN... Erm, Norway.
DUBBED?... Yes.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES... Easily confused with the roughly contemporaneous documentary series Land of The Lapps, installed in a similar is-anybody-really-watching-this? timeslot.
YOU'RE THINKING OF... THE BOY FROM LAPLAND - The references-to-nomadic-lifestyle-heavy adventures of the titular boy (more correctly known as ‘Ante’). His interests were listed as including ‘reindeer and jokes’."

And now I hope I've not made a tit of myself by getting the wrong show entirely

Thanks for that link gt. I used to love that cartoon which was shown on ITV on the days before Xmas. The last time I saw it must have been on Harlech in about 1970.

No problem I was born in 1982 and don't remember the show the OP is talking about either.

Shockingly, there's already been a post on here about it before! What an unlikely programme to have a duplicate thread!

I KNEW I had Mika in my head for a reason, but then I remembered the name Ossian and I got confused... so Ossian was the reindeer, I see.

THANK YOU SO MUCH karapote monkey!

I seem to recall they were recorded in a potting shed as the sound was dire

I remember this also; particularly the music. Lots of "loy loy loy-loy-loy-loy-loy-loy-loy-loy loy-loy looy looy lahhs". Your post reminded me of it.

I remember it too. It was called Mika. I remember he was taking the reindeer to a zoo, but in the end could leave it there because he had come to love it.

Seems to be a lot of threads like this recently. Maybe we should condense them

Any more on this or has everyone given up

My wife had a dream about this programme and we couldn`t find anything other than this discussion. Has anyone found out anything else?
