Amp Levels all over the place....
Mr Cable
28-11-2007
We've got an LG Amp/Home Theatre connected by Optical to our 360 & PS3 but when we try watching a HD-DVD or Blu-Ray disc, the noise levels vary heavily.

The minute some action appears, the sound effects & often background music completely drown out any voices and tend to be so loud that we've have to turn it down, and the minute it calms down, we have to turn up the volume to hear what's going on.

Anyone help?

what you need to do is calibrate the speakers

somewhere will be a test which sends white noise to each speaker and try and get them to sound the same level of volume

sounds as if the centre speaker is too low as this is where the speech comes from

star wars has THX calibration for screen settings and sound

Thank you SO much for your help, it's been the best part of a year where we've been unable to enjoy movies properly.

(I've now found it best if Centre is at +6 and the rest around -4 - I'll probably get shot for saying that!)

Thank you, Thank you and Thank you again!
