Sorry to be so blunt BUT if there are no optical or coaxial digital inputs on the Sony you MUST take it back and get something that can handle additional digital input sources - other wise you will not get the benefit of DD5.1 from Sky movies etc.

Thanks for the reply, I cant send the dav back as its already unpacked etc. I can live without DD, if I can get Dolby Pro Logic.

After some trolling around the net I have found the following:

Connect DAV-DZ230 to TV using HDMI, then the scart on the DAV becomes an input instead of an output.
Then connect the sky+ box to the TV with scart, and to the DAV with red/white phono connectors through a composite scart converter.
Or do I connect Sky+ to the TV with scart, and the TV to the DAV using a scart lead, bearing in mind i will be (hopefully)connecting my xbox (hdmi) sound through the DAV as well.

Does any one have a better idea.

And if I am talking rubbish, please tell me, I'm a noob to this and only passing ideas foundon the net.

Thanks Andy

If the Sony has an AUX phono IN (red/white) then just connect the TV out phono left/right to the Sony phono in and select AUX for ALL listening except DD from your DVD.

Sky+ TV scart (bottom one) to TV AV1 scart IN (set Sky picture output to be RGB)
DVD HDMI to TV HDMI

DAV's are so poor when it comes to interconnectivity. They assume you want surround for DVD only and the tuner and give you 1 aux imput that will do pro logic at best.

I dont understand why they still produce these when the Sony STR range of av amplifiers are so good. I would never have a DAV, you couldnt pay me. Even at top volume you can hold a conversation across the room whereas an av amp will shake the light fittings off and give excellent sound quality.

The best all in one dvd/cinema ive heard is an black LG one at a customers house recently. He got it in a deal at Currys and I was moderately impressed, although again , he only had 1 aux input. Shame really as it sounded ok.

Your best bet is to connect the stereo out from the tv to the aux input on the DAV so that anything shown on the tv can come through the DAV in pro-logic (if possible).
