Panasonic scpt850eb set up help required

I have a Panasonic SCPT850EB home cinema system connected to a Toshiba 42z3030 lcd tv.
I have had them for about 2 weeks but find understanding the manuals not easy.If I play a dvd that has both Dolby Digital and DTS, do I have to choose the settings for either format on the player, or on the tv. Also does the upscaling happen automatically or do I have to make adjustments (the tv is full 1080p} The dvd's I have watched looked good, but I don't know if they should be better, I don't have the optical cable connected.just a hdmi cable. There are 3 hdmi inputs on the tv and 1 on the Panasonic.
Apart from that I think it is a fabulous unit.
I intend to get Sky hd, could that be connected through the Panasonic for the surround effect?
Many thanks
Scorpio

Hi Ray. DD and DTS are 2 seperate soundtracks on the DVD, you can select either by using the AUDIO button on the DVD remote. This will toggle through the soundtracks (DD, DTS, 2 channel etc) until you are listening to the one you prefer.
With a system like yours DD or DTS will be about the same providing full 6 channel sound - the subtle nuances between the two are down to personal taste.

If you are connected using HDMI then (I think) the upscaling happens automatically but you must have your TV 'tuned' to the HDMI channel - dont have a scart between the DVD and the TV.

For Sky HD you will need to connect the Sky HDMI to the TV using another HDMI socket and connect the Sky optical sound cable into the optical in on the DVD unit.
