Do you ever judge the professional
artlesschaos

by the fans they attract?

I think I do, sometimes...positively or negatively!

Just wondering if it is just me?

No. I don't think you can stereotype in this way.

Never.....my eyes are always drawn to the celeb. I respect all the pro`s but I don`t have a favourite.......so have never felt compelled to vote for the professional even when their partner was crap.

I judge the professional on their ability to teach and support their partner

I probably don't have much in common man-wise when it comes to brendan fans because I just don't see the appeal myself!

I might occasionally vote for the pros as opposed to the celebs but then i think that is fair because the pros have put in all the work withthe celeb as well as choreographing and (choosing the dance???) and also some of the pros design their outfits as well plus they have to teach the dance to the celebs and deal with the judges critisism which could seem personal to them especially if they have a go about choreography nd then they have to build up the confidence in their partner when they have been in and escaped the bottom two or get slagged off by the judges so i think the pros are miracle workers

however i mostly vote for the celeb cos i guess the show is about the dancing and how far the celeb has come and stuff so i guess its not really justified to always vote for the pro.

wow i sound like im ranting im sorry i don't mean to

I vote for the couple, usually the ones that get on the best, and that match each other in the dancing.

I don't vote unless I think there is something worth voting for. That is obviously a subjective thing!

There are times when the response of some of the fans puts me off the pro - unfair, possibly, but true.

I don't ever vote for the pro, as they are, by definition, there to teach. I vote for the dance and the person who learnt it.

No, I think that's perfectly fair comment.

I never judge the pros by their fans because I don't pay enough attention to their fans.

Having said that, Brendan was the whole reason why I got into SCD in the first place (I only started watching Series 2 after seeing his and Natasha's showdance) and I've been a fan of his ever since.

I'm actually more interested in the pros than the celebrities, partly because I often haven't heard of the celebrities until they appear on SCD. It's also because this is a dance competition and the pros are the talented dancers. They have to pick the music, choreograph the routine and teach it to the celebrities - it must be incredibly hard work for them and I'm full of admiration.

That sums up perfectly why many of us do admire the pros first and foremost, and why they're gaining a high profile.

Yep, I do. I didn't know Karen Hardy from a muppet until I read some of the inane trite her fans write about her, it was only then I started taking notice, and found I didn't like her very much, too OTT for me .

I don't think I do - if one pro dancer appears to be better than another, it is usually because their celeb partner is dancing well enough for them to start showing off (or putting some tricky choreography into the routine). Matt's dancing with Alesha is a lot better than his dancing with Carol.

I do have my favourites (Matt, Ian, Camilla, & Flavia), but that doesn't make me any less interested in a good dance by in a celeb + pro dancer that I'm not a huge fan of.

I too am occasionally put off by the response of fans of both the pro-dancers and celebs.

I've recently abandoned the BBC boards where criticism of some couples would result in a barrage of personal insults being hurled at the person posting. It certainly had an impact on my view of the couples in question, even though it wasn't their fault! Human nature, I guess.

I don't judge the pros by their fans. But sometimes their fans make me not want to talk about them on forums and therefore turn my attention to other pros!

I have to say , I am not put off any of the couples by their fans . I am put off the fans themselves and especially put off those who post snide remarks about pros they don't like .

This particular forum has no age restriction and there are a good number of very young fans now posting and supporting several professional dancers .I think allowances are not made for their different style of posting , shall we say , and for their partisan enthusiasm .

I may not be drawn to all of the pros , but I am , unlike many others , prepared to read and enjoy and believe accounts of personal experiences of meetings . classes etc .

Seymour , if one were to analyse all that is written here , most of it is " inane trite" . In the great scheme of things it means less than nothing .
Karen is also not the only person by any means about whom , shall we say , less than sensible posts are made .

Absolutely - although certain fans do put me off the celebs too,I tend to avoid the areas I used to frequent( if only in lurking capacity) ..I've found that this year in particular )

How very true! but what I have found is that it is the Karenites that jump on anyone that post with less than
adoration for their heroine, now I have never posted in any fans appreciation threads, but I will continue to say what I think about Karen or whoever in whatever thread I think appropriate.

This is definately not restricted to Karen fans - there are plenty of fans who will leap on any reference to their person and attack the "hatah" with their exclaimation marks of justice.

I also dislike the trait of speaking on behalf of the pro/zeleb - "Thank you for supporting Peter, he would agree" sort of thing...how do they know??

What a great sentence! *bows in appreciation*

Well some posters here do actually know particular pro dancers, and communicate with them regularly, but they never post their private information willy nilly on threads, as they have too much respect of confidentiality.

I think that because we are now in series five some of the professionals have actually become celebrities themselves!

I do think that Anton - and his chest - had his own strong fan base and that is one reason he and Kate stayed in so long.

Thank you!

As to your second point - I completely understand the point you are making, and those posters are an obvious asset to the forum, the ones I mean are the ones who *think* they have a personal relationship...you know?!

I tend to like all of the professionals (really I do!), but feel I can read most of the arguments between fan bases with a certain detachment. I do sometimes dip into the appreciation threads for the professionals but rarely post in them. I don't feel particularly put off by the more strident comments. In fact some of the threads are quite nice (e.g. the thread for Nicole Cutler, whom I particularly like both as a dancer and a person).

I hate it when you get fans that are supporters of one professional or one celeb who slate other couples just to make their favourite look good or because they are threatened.
Personally i normally vote for the couple but i have to admit in week one i did put one of two votes in for Lilia and Dom purely because i think Lilia is fab.

Yes, I do know what you mean, and it just makes me and laugh in equal measure. It needn't be just about the pros either.
