couple of questions

I'm thinking of buying a topfield now I'm having to send my humax back because it was so noisy. Grateful if some could answer these questions:-

1. I know there is no fan....is it quiet? Any noise at all?

2. I looked on topfield website at the software to download to use TAPs but couldn't work out from the list of files which to download. I wanted to install the software before buying because I'm on Windows XP x64 edition and sometimes have issues with software/drivers. Which of the files do I need?

3. Does anyone know when the 5810 is expected?

thanks, Alex

Althought there is no fan there is still a little bit of noise form the hard disk spinning up/down and seeking.
Some people say that the toppy is noisy ( ie clicking nosies etc) some say its almost silent, noise is a subjective thing.
For a while my toppy was in my bedroom, only a few metres away from where i sleep, and when it was on/recording etc it didnt disturb me.
There is a tap that can put the toppys hard disk into acoustic management/silent mode which makes a diference to the noise you get from a hard disk seeking.

As for software, you will nees the topfield PC utilities, which you can find at http://www.toppy.org.uk under downloads/windows tools.

the 5810 is expected soetime around christmas, although this could be anytime in the next couple of weeks, or in the next few months ( ie early 2008)

I'm not sure, off the top of my head, if there are 64 bit drivers for XP. I know there aren't for Vista.

Information about the 5810 is still "around christmas." I hope to have more details on that in the next week or so.

thanks for info guys, I think I'll wait to see the 5810 spec. I downloaded the software and it seemed to install ok although obviously not been able to test it yet!
