Is it possible to get 3 internet max on my phone then use the usb internet option in my phone to browse the internet on my laptop with it, or will they charge me separately for it?

I would personally recommend you install X-Series Silver then, its the same price but the profile set up allows more ports and access to more sites. (the internet max is a little restricted).

However the T&Cs clearly state that you are not meant to use it as a modem - yet should you be reasonable, there isn't any way for 3 to bill you for laptop usage...

This has been discussed many times, networks CAN detect if you are using your handset as a modem, and while I have used me Handset & XSeries for the odd, sneaky bit of browsing, I wouldn't make a habit of it because as the previous poster states, IT'S IN BREACH OF YOUR TERMS & CONDITIONS!

In answer to your original question, yes, while you may be able to access the internet using internet max or even XSeries - 3 are albe to charge you whatever they wish for data as you'll be in blatant breach of said T & C's.

If you want to do more than the minimum of browsing using a laptop, then activate 'Add Broadband Lite'. It's only a fiver more than you currently spend for 'add internet max', you can use it on handset or with PC, and you wont be breaking the rules and leaving yourself open for a hefty bill.

I am looking to take out a contract this year with some form of data package that can be used with my HTC Hermes phone as a USB Modem. 3 looks OK to me, but how do I select Broadband Lite without buying one of their modems? What I want to do is take out a mobile phone monthly contract for say £15 / month and then add Broadband Lite. How do I do this? Their website only has facility to add Internet Max which is no good for laptop use.

Thanks

Tom

There is every chance you will be charged per MB (£2) using a 3 handset as a modem with the Internet Max add-on. When you access the net in this way it dials a number and calling line identification registers your session.

3 have a separate add-on called Broadband Lite which lets you use the handset for Internet access or as a modem with your laptop. You can use up to 1GB a month for £10 and no sleepless nights about them catching up with you using services outwith their terms and conditions!!

BTW 3 will only provide a service to handsets that support their USIM and their UMTS 3G network.
