DAB Radio-recommendations please
Can anyone recommend a good portable DAB Radio for the kitchen around the £40-£60 price.
Thanks |

Pure One is the obvious choice.

Well, my Dad's got a Roberts and my brother has a Pure One and the Roberts is certainly a better sound.
(and both are leagues ahead of my Panasonic )

For less than £ 100 any of the PURE range takes some beating.
I've had a PURE 1 for over three years and it's a great little set with really good sound quality - only downside is it has just the one speaker so on it's own the output is Mono - though you can easily hook it to a hifi. Some of the newer ones have twin speakers, therefore stereo output. |

If you can stretch to a Pure Evoke you'll be able to hook up your MP3 as well

The Roberts one reviewed on this week's The Gadget Show looks worth a look. Roberts is a long established reputable make and this model took my eye / ear as being the best sound quality and especially for the compatively long battery life you may find important for a portable you may want to move around the house a lot.

I have the Pure Move (you can pick it up on PC World's website and collect in store for £67.88 at the moment, not long ago £99 was the cheapest it was available anywhere) and it's a little gem. The bonus for me with this is the built in rechrgeable batteries which quite happily power it for 40 hours at a time when away from a mains supply. |

The bit rates on DAB stations are insufficient to support the audio quality of an FM station. Its a bit like Freeview too much crammed in too little bandwidth so the rest can be sold off by Ofcon/ Gordon Brown ( I think he is supposed to be the Prime Minister?) |

Provided you get decent DAB reception, it can offer more choice (depending on how many stations you get on FM at the same location), and stations which are on AM and DAB will sound much better on the DAB set. But the quality of the other stations (eg, music station which are also on FM) will in most cases be less good than the old FM version (given that the location has a strong FM reception).
Speakers on many low cost DAB's are also of low quality - to cut costs, and this in part leads to a further reduction in sound quality. ....and lastly, DAB+ will soon be with us. Stations on DAB+ will be of better audio quality (by how much - we dont know), and it will allow for more stations as well, but stations in only DAB+ format wont be picked up on a current DAB set.
