Sky ad break signal?

I have just bought a Panasonic S53 DVD player, and have encountered an odd problem. I have recorded some American football games onto DVD -RW (Panasonic), using my Panasonic EX75. When I replay them on the S53 it completely freezes up at the commencement of each ad-break. As each game lasts over three hours, thats a lot of freezes, on almost every ad-break. When I have tried to unfreeze it, it has skipped chapters, refused to budge, and I even had to turn the player on and off to eject the disc. It also froze a couple of times during studio chat. I've checked three different NFL discs, all with the problem, and a couple with Channel5 programmes, with no problem. The NFL discs all play fine on the EX75, a portable ls97, and a Lodos combi.
Has anybody else encountered anything similar, or have any suggestions?
Thanks

Is it down to screen aspect ratio changes between the main programme and advert breaks?

To my untrained eye that seems to be the most likely culprit, but I have no idea how to eliminate it, possibly a setting somewhere? It is also puzzling why it only seems to affect this machine, of the ones I have checked.

This is probably a really stupid suggestion
but maybe you need a Video Image Caption Encoder?

Thanks for the info Sam, maybe that's it. It seems I may be breaking the law! All I want to do is record it in the lounge, and watch it in the bedroom, then I delete it. I suppose I could hook up my portable player to the TV, as that plays it OK.

If you are breaking the law then just about everyone with a recorder is as well! I wouldn't mind having one of the devices Sam pointed to though. Not that I want to copy anything that has protection, just to be able to tell Mrs Blink I bought vice for thirty quid.
