hi,this is my first post here although i've lurked for a long time on this site, however,i'm hoping someone can help me with a problem.

I have BT BB,option 2 along with BT Telephone option 2,1 PC connected by ethernet,1 lappy and 1 itouch by wireless through the HH.I also have my main telephone connected through the ADSL filter and 3 dect phones through my hub.

Everything has been fine for years, until i requested 1571 last week

It was activated on sunday evening at 8pm on the dot.Since then,i couldn't ring out and none of my dect phones worked so monday morning,i got BT to remove it,thinking everything would go back to the way it was...it didn't!

Now that its removed, everyone that tries to phone me gets the engaged signal, none of my 4 phones can ring out although i hear them dialing the numbers but they never connect.

if i plug my main phone into the test socket,i can get a line just once and then i have to unplug it again to be able to phone out again.
My BB is fine, its just all my phones won't work,i've had the line tested,i've tried 3 different corded phones,4 different ADSL filters,i've unpluged everything and plugged back in,done linetest after line test and nothing has worked.BT say they can't find a fault at this stage as my line is fine,i know that as my BB is working but the phones won't.
i have no dialing tone unless i remove the BB and then i can hear a crackling dial tone on the main phone.

BT has phoned me twice on my mobile to update me but as yet, they haven't found the problem and don't think its anything to do with the 1571,they think its my equipment but it was working perfectly beforehand and now i'm at a loss what to do,has anyone got any ideas,i'm in hell without my phones

thanks for reading this.

if your experiencing a crackle with a corded phone in your test socket then report it as a noisy fault. the line test will say it's o.k, and you will be advised of possible charges, but if you've done the test in the test socket then you have nothing to worry about. they will give you an appointment and jobs done. BB will work through many faults on the network, such as a loop(when people ring you they get engaged, when it's not) and a HR dis(very noisy line). have you tried ringing your house phone when everything is unplugged? what happens then?

thanks for the reply,i tried again today,i unplugged the BB and filter, put my main phone in the test socket and i could ring out, once,i then had to unplug and replug it to ring out again.I then plugged the filter into the test socket with both BB and the phone connected,i could ring out once normally but as soon as i repeated it,no dialing tone and when ringing in,the engaged signal, its driving me potty!

i then unplugged everything and repeated all and got the same results so i rang back to BT and told them all my experiments (again) and although they still don't think it has anything to do with the activation of 1571,they're sending an engineer out in the morning to fix me,hopefully

i just can't believe that the activation of the 1571 and all my problems are not connected as uptill that very moment,i hadn't a problem and i so miss my dect phones and their little jingles.

I know exactly when the thing was activated as a minute beforehand,i was speaking to my son on the dect phone,he rang off and forgot to tell me something so rang straight back, the phone rang once but never connected so i put it down,he then rang my mobile and said the 1571 was on and nothings worked since, just an empty nothing where the dialing tone should be,its hell on earth!

I feel like billy no mates without the phone and its costing me a small fortune on PAYG on my mobile!

Possibly a blessing in disguise for your friends and family though (see HERE).

well, the engineer came this am,he was here 3 hours,he renewed the line to my house and when he then plugged my main phone into the socket,it worked...but,not if i have my phone connected at the same time as my internet through the filter, still no dialing tone

he then decided it must be to do with the BB extention cable so told me to renew it as that was the problem...i did as he said,i renewed all my cables and my problem still exists.I can have the phone or BB,not together.

and so back to unplugging BB so i could call the BB help line where i had to go through all my problems again...4 times as i kept getting cut off...i'm now waiting for them to ring me back in an hour on my mobile...i'm thinking now it could be a fault on the HH as theres nothing else i can renew or do!
anyone got any further ideas please before i go insane.

Could be the HomeHub. The HH is connected directly to the line via the filter so if that is faulty it could look to the BT exchange equipment as though you have a phone off hook. Hence why you cannot use another phone at the same time and why callers to you get engaged.

Since you've used several filters it doesn't look like they could be the problem. Unless you have been extremely unlucky and found a batch of dodgy ones!

Heinz, There's a problem with the URL you give. It comes up with something about lobsters.

But to echo Heinz, please don't get 1571. You're only increasing phone bills for all those who call you.

i don't have the option for 1571 now as i still have no phone and Internet at the same time.

my day yesterday was continually trying to speak to an advisor,BT telephone faultline said theres nothing wrong with my line and so i was passed to India where i was cut off at every call.I spent a fortune from my mobile and by 5pm,i'd had enough so i insisted on speaking to someone in the UK about my problem.

I finally got a nice person called Emma who thinks the filters at my exchange aren't working properly and not splitting my line, hence the reason i can only have a phone or internet but not together.Whether this is true or not remains to be seen but shes calling me back tonight allegedly and has escalated my complaint. My hell continues!

update,my phone has just rang,i'm back in the land of internet and phones working at the same time...i can phone out and receive calls so BT must've found my fault and fixed it...my hell is over but i know one thing,i'll never again ask for 1571 to be placed on my phoneline
