I don't like LCD or Plasma displays so I thought that I'd see what kind of HD picture I could get on a 21" CRT computer monitor using a HD Fury and see if it would be a workable option instead of a normal TV.
Using the HDFury to link a V+ box to a LaCie 21" monitor I found that the picture was displayed well to the left of the middle of the screen. By setting the CRT settings to move the picture 100% to the right the full picture was displayed so that it filled about 90% of the screen but I could move it no further. I live in England with 60hz signal and this workaround was mentioned on the HD Fury website so it wasn't completely unexpected.
I first tried the 720p signal and this displayed no problem. I then tried the 1080i option, but the monitor said that it wasn't able to display a signal at this bandwidth.
The quality of the HD picture itself is very good, especially on HD sources.
The main issue which would stop me using this as a normal tele (with separate sound amp and speakers of course) is that the broadcast HD signals are displayed in widescreen, so the maximum size of picture you get on a square 21" monitor is about 11"x18" which is too small for viewing in a normal living room.
