In response to one of my earlier posts a very good point was made. Why is the talent SO much better in America than here in the UK?

It could be something to do with the size and population of the country as opposed to Britain. To say we are only tiny, I think we do brilliantly - in most things

The last two series of AI I've felt have been extremely short talentwise considering the size of the country.

It was all a bit samey IMO. I loved Daughtrey and the guy with the big chin the year before, they were good.

Imagine talent scattered randomly around the world.

The larger the group of people you look at, the greater than chances that a great singer will be among them.

I think the talent level is pretty much the same. Where the difference lies is that AI is boring & safe. All the acts are the same & there's never any individuality. We produce much more eclectic, exciting acts in our talent competitions.

i cant agree with you there...Remember Blake? Our acts have hardly any individuality which is why the people who dont win never have any careers after the x factor!!

AI has had 4 female winners and 2 male winners.

If it was in Britain the figures would be switched automatically.

Well lets suppose that the queue at the nearest bus stop to you, with ten people or more waiting, decided to declare itself as an independabt country.
What are the chances of getting a decent show out of them?

well by your logic china and india should have the best singers, or the best football players etc.

Most of the time... sometimes they vote based on hair styles (Sanjaya)!

Obviously the size of the country is largely responsible, but there is also more emphasis on singing in the US, iMO. Alot of the girls in the top 12's were formerly members of gospel choirs. Also, alot of them have spoken of singing the national anthem before school football matches. In the US, this must be done before every sporting match and is seen as a great honour. Imagine having some 16 year old girl singing "God Save The Queen" before a local schools football match?! So I think there is a cultural difference as well that helps.

Mainly, it's the size.

not true the US and UK have very similar charts and culture re singing. I don't know the population of China or India, but whatever it is they don't have the same songs. I'm sure they would think that they have the best singers of songs popular there.

Having a big enough pool to chose from is one of the key factors in any talent contest.

Not necessarily. For the last series of AI, 100,000 people auditioned compared to our 150,000 for this years X Factor

A POV repeated many times in the comments section when Perez links to Rhydian's performances on XFactor (especially the so-called camp ones). You just wouldn't get stuff like that on AI, they say (I wouldn't know as I've never watched it)

Lol at this question. Some people..............

Simple answer 6 times bigger population thus almost 300 million more people that could be great singers.

Also just a small point there has been 8 Pop Idol/stares/x factor type shows, so after this long the talent pool will dry up.
