Multiple channels (BBC1 x3)
Highly Confused
05-12-2007
Hello all,

Hopefully you can help me!!!

I rescanned channels on my Topfield. It went through the system and I got 53 TV channels!!

When looking at the EPG (MyStuff 5.5) I noticed that I had multiple version numbers of channels i.e. 3 off BBC1; 2 off BBC2 etc. Not only were there more channels than I expected the actual programmes were attributed to the wrong channels.

Can anyone assist?

Where are you based?

It's possible that you're picking up BBCs from more than one transmitter.

For example here in Sittingbourne, we get BBC1 South East transmissions from both Bluebell Hill (our local transmitter) and a weaker BBC1 London transmission from Crystal Palace.

It may well be that you are in line of sight of more than one transmitter.

Hi

Yep that happens quite a bit when they have added new channels and moving the radio stations about and you do a rescan.

You can either just delete the repeats using the standard Topfield channel list, probably only one of the three actually works or delete the lot and epg data and start again.

Hope that helps.

I am based in Thanet.

I had a "proper" channel list on Friday, with only a few duplicates. One channel with EPG data the second without.

however now I have channel numbers i.e. ITV1 but the EPG data has Channel 4 programmes on it!!

Confused

Maybe you're picking up your local transmitter and Bluebell Hill but try what Hal says and do a re-scan, that way the channels "should" assume their proper positions on the EPG.

Find your local transmitter on the DTG list. Do a Factory Reset to clear all your channels (and timers!). Then use the Manual Service Search to scan just the UHF channels that are indicated as digital ones for your transmitter. You'll then end up with just the one set of channels. As a bonus, this will be much quicker than the automatic scan (although more interaction is required).

The EPG data will be wrong because My Stuff uses a data harvester and stores the EPG data on the Topfield HDD.

I have found the only way to correct this is to delete all the EPG data and rescan once the channel list is correct.

Hope that helps.

Do i need to do a factory rest to delete the EPG or is there a simpler way?

If I perform a Factory reset will this affect my recordings?
I have only a few controlled timers (My Stuff) I take it I will have to reload these?

You can delete the EPG data using the standard Topfield file menus.

If you list the files the same way you do to see the mp3 and auto start listings you should see the EPG data as an freeview.mei etc depends how you have setup to obtain the EPG data.

I would move rather than delete the file to start with.

You can simply switch off and on again to unload the data and force a rescan.

I have only had the Topfield for about 2 weeks, so am relative virgin when it comes to these menus. I have added a couple of TAPS as it is very easy via Altair, recorded a few programmes, performed a few channel scans and that is it so far.

so any relatively detailed responses would be gratefully received.

A factory reset will not affect anything on your hard disk - it will clear timers, and delete stored channels, so when you scan you shouldn't end up with duplicates.

To clear the EPG data for MyStuff, you can probably find instructions in the MyStuff manual, I think.

The above method is now my prefered way for scanning channels, it may sound more complicated, but the amount of time it saves is incredible.
Ive made a list with all the channle/multiplex frequencies that i use when scanning.
