Everywhere I've read about this, it only refers to the HXD870,
970 and 1070 models.

Does anyone know if it will work with the HXD770 model?

It should also work with the 770 model since they are all the same, it’s just the hardrive size that is different.

The reason I did not mention the 770 model is I did not realise that anybody sells it.

Please post if the update works on the 770 model.

I have just checked the manufactures update instructions and it only mentions the 870, 970 & 1070 models, I bet they made the same mistake as I did.

The Sony UK website only lists the 870, 970 & 1070 models, the 770 does not exist, even if you enter it in the search box.

Strange! I got it from Tesco. I would have expected lots of people to have the 770.

I'll leave off doing the update just yet though...

I can't comment on the exact download mentioned above, but it is the correct filename, and that filename is the latest update for the models I copied and pasted off the technical bulletin above.

You won't find it on the Sony website as it's not a customer upgrade!.

I will wait until the 970 is actually in use and see how it performs. It has come directly from Sony staff sales so may well be updated already.

If necessary I will load the update - probably with some trepidation!

The software is genuine.

It was sent to a few customers on CD by Sony UK.

I then got a copy of it and uploaded it.

Go back to around page 40 and read all the pages from then on if you can stand it.

No one has bought a sony yet with the latest software version.
You need the latest version to stop the failing to record fault.
It’s the hidden software version you need, its 1.63, 1.62 does not fix the fault.
To find it look at my software update instructions, it has a section that tells you how to check it.

To remind everyone about the failing to record fault.
If you set a timer using the freeview EPG guide and use the default settings EPG Link ON and Series Record OFF, the timer will disappear / delete itself at random before the program is due to record leading to no recording.

You can stop the fault by updating the software or switching EPG Link Off or Series Record ON (if it will let you).

Sony have released a new version of the update, version 1.65. Its on their website, direct link below.

Now that's interesting! - it hasn't appeared on Sony Assist yet, which is Sony's service manual and technical bulletin computer software system, that all dealers have to buy and subscribe to!.

The biggest question is what’s the difference between 1.63 and 1.65?

They both simply claim to fix the timer fault.

Still early days yet, but looks like 1.63 as mentioned resets all the setting back to manufactures defaults.

1.65 does not state it will reset settings according to the instructions.

One person claims to have upgraded from 1.63 to 1.65 and it reset the settings.
Another person claims to have upgraded from an earlier version to 1.65 and it did not reset the settings.

At least that’s what I have read at avforums.

If you ever get access to a version history / change log please let me no, if its confidential send me a private message.

I'll keep checking on Assist and see when it turns up, and what the bulletin says.

There have been a lot of people unable to connect to the Sony Update webpage due to there internet provider being miss configured or something.

There have also been some people finding it very difficult to understand how to make the update CD.

So I have edited my instructions to fix all the above problems.

As for this upgrade to 1.65,I'll wait a while,as having to reset the host channel/external receivers/Guideplus listings,does take the fun out of an upgrade.
I just hope my multi-regionality hasn't been reset as well.

Just to chuck my three penn'th in, I've just upgraded from 1.63 to 1.65 (I only did the 1.63 upgrade on Saturday!) to no ill effects - no lost timers, no lost settings.

However, I use the digital EPG. I can see that if maybe the upgrade defaults to the digital EPG then some people with Guide+ would lose all their timers, since changing from one to another does that. It would be interesting to see if that's the difference between those that do claim to have lost their timers and those who don't.

Any feedback on whether this resets the multi-region hack?

I have just upgraded from 1.63 to 1.65 and I can tell you that the multiregion hack still works fine as before but all other settings were restored to their original for me. Thanks again Spoon261 for your advice

The update instructions for 1.65 are different to 1.63.

1.65 says press the REC Stop and Play buttons
1.63 says press the REC Stop and Eject buttons.

The Play button seems to not reset any settings back to manufacturers defaults.
You of course also keep any multiregion hack you have and your recordings.

Had an email from Sony this morning, explaining that 1.65 is available for download, and that it will be distributed via Assist in the near future.

It said that if you've already upgraded to 1.63 there's no need to change to 1.65, but that any not upgraded should be done using 1.65 and not 1.63.

Confusing or what?
