Theres nothing on that firmware download page about an OTA download.
You just will have to check this page every week:

I didn't think it was a FreeView update?, but a main OS update - you can only do FreeView updates OTA.

Sonys website says you can also take the machine to a Sony Service centre for the update, the weblink is below, some peoples internet service providers are having trouble connecting to sony website though.

I do not no if sony would post you a CD with the software update on?

But surly you no someone with a internet connection and a CD/DVD burner?
Even on dialup its only around a 40 minute download.
Even if they live a long way away, it costs hardly anything to buy a CD and post it, happy Christmas?

thanks, I recently purchased the 770 (in argos, only £150, bargain!) and was a little annoyed when half the recordings i set over christmas failed.
Updated it today to 1.65 and hasn't deleted any recordings since (touch wood)

Unfortunately digital spy forums will not let me edit old posts of mine.

The link in post 15 = http://www.driveway.com/hlpyv13360

Is now out of date.

Avforums on the other hand lets me edit any of my posts, of any age.

You can find my latest edited Software Update Instructions in the link below, you will also find in it the new link that replaces the out of date one above.

Can someone just confirm for me that the 1.65 update won't delete my current recordings?

Thanks!

All my recordings were still there when I updated.

You've almost certainly not created the CD correctly, read the instructions on the website and follow them completely.

Or you could take it back to where you bought it, and ask them to update it for you.

Your mistake was to go to the Sony website.
You have to be experienced and skilled to use it.

That's why I created a much easier and simpler system for the average computer user.

A reminder of my system / post link

Also thanks from me for the very clear and helpful instructions.

Two things have occurred, the last two days, relating to the Sony RDR-HDX870.
Having upgraded to 1.65,thanks to this thread, last year.
I discovered,my software version had reverted back to 1.25.
Despite four attempts to update it,it remains on 1.25.
Any advice to ensure the update works, would help immensely.
Secondly not relevant to this thread, but the host channel, for the guideplus epg,has changed,of its own accord, and despite changing to the correct one,is not downloading the listings, despite being left in standby overnight.

My 870 has suddenly stopped updating the Guide plus EPG - I have nothing beyond Friday 22nd - so presumably it has not updated since last Saturday!

I have not knowingly updated any software on the machine - the 'hidden' version is showing as 1.28 and the Technical Info panel shows Hardware version 435 and Software version 115.

The Host channel is still set up as ITV (analogue channel 3) as it always has been and there is still a picture on that channel.

The machine is always in standby when it is not in use. The Guide Plus update page shows this afternoon as the last update and the next update due at 18:58. It shows the number of files as 227/0 - so it does appear to be going through the motions but either the data files are not being recived or it is just not updating.

What I want is the firmware upgrade that will allow my Sony PVR to transfer a recorded TV programme through USB directly to my Sony video walkman. The picture woudl need to be down-scaled in the process, of course.

Sorry to be slightly off-thread, but that would make the video part of my Walkman really useful instead of a gimmick.
