Afternoon.

I have recently purchased an LG LCD TV with built in digi channels.

I have connected it to my Pioneer dvd recorder (433h) with built in hard-drive with a scart lead. Unfortunately, whilst it records from the annalogue channels, it won't record from the AV/digital channel. It just doesn't seem to recongise the existence of the digital channels on the TV.

I previously used the recorder to record from a digi box and that worked fine.

Are there compatibility issues between the two or have I messed up the set up (I can't see anything obvious I've done wrong)? Perhaps more than just a scart lead is required?

Have you got the LG tuned to the Freeview channel that you want to record? And are you sure that the LG is capable of, and set to, output its Freeview to one or other of the scarts. And is this scart the one that you have the DVD recorder connected to? And are you sure that you have got the correct AV selected on the DVD recorder source input (probably AV1)?

Do you still have your old digibox that worked previously?

If so put it back on the recorder and use that instead. For one thing you will then be able to record a different channel to the one you are watching on the TV.

Exactly, the biggest drawback of this DVDR is the lack of a digital tuner meaning your TV would be tied up providing the input once analog dies. Far too inflexible a set up for today's viewing.

definitely go with Chris's advice, and if you havent got one - get one!

I had a similar issue with my Pioneer 420 dvdr and a new Panasonic 32 LXD.

Pioneer say the only way to record to an analogue recorder from a built in digital channel (and then only the one you are watching/tuned to) is to connect both scart sockets on dvdr to 2 scart sockets on the TV. Then you select the appropriate setting on dvdr. I have not tried it as this is not very flexible. STB is much better solution.
