optical audio connection and LCD
Sorry if this is a basic question but bear with me!
I have a media player that i want to connect to my LCD. Video is via dvmi to hdmi lead. For the audio I have an optical slot on the media player and an optical out on the LCD. Will the optical lead transmit the audio or am i missing something? I am yet to buy the optical cable. If not can i use the RCA red and white cable to transmit the audio. I am basically looking for the best solution in terms of video and audio quality. Thanks in advance |

the optical socket TV's are usually outputs not inputs.
On my tv there are phono inputs for audio in when using dvi. |

Simple rule. Outputs are always connected to Inputs. Your Media Player has an Optical Output. Your TV has an Optical Output.
You see the problem? ![]() The other problem you have is that the TV when switched to the HDMI input will expect the audio to also be on the HDMI input. It is extremely unlikely that it can be switched to pick up video from HDMI and audio from AV3 or whatever. When you switch the TV to a particular input connection it expects both audio and video to be grouped together, as it is on the HDMI socket, a SCART or a group of Audio and Video phonos. You would be lucky to find any TV that can switch audio separately to video. |
