Hi All,

I owned a Sony Bravia and have been using th EPG option to record TV programs.

Is there any other branded TV doing the same as Sony Bravia and if so, do people use it. I would have thought that most people will use the timer on their DVD recorder now...

Your views are welcome.

The timer on their DVD recorder isn't going to change channel on their idTV or their STB to the correct Freeview channel before starting to record though is it? That's what the EPG on idTVs is for - to set the scart output to the correct Freeview channel prior to the recorder starting to record from its scart input.

Hi broadz,

I know what you mean, but I thought nowadays most DVD player has EPG function. In that case, we can alywas use the EPG functions of the DVD player to start recording rather than using my Sony TV EPG recording function to kick start the recording.

I'm on my fourth DVD recorder. None have had built-in Freeview or an EPG. Lucky I've got an idTV with record facility built-in.

I would have thought most modern DVDRs which have a digital tuner, will also have an EPG which would allow a point-and-record type of setup.

This is certainly the way twin tuner PVRs are programmed.

I was told that all DVD recorder will have digital tuner function and EPG. Is that true?

How many people out there are actually recording using their DVD recorder EPG??

Certainly most do now - it would be pretty silly to buy an analogue only one if you already get digital reception.
