Recommendations please for a cheapo DVD player available now in either Asda/Tesco/Sainsbury's that is multi-region out of the box or Region 2 but with easy, immediate hacking?

Thanks in Advance.

Can't help with the regions but for your info my inlaws have got a Tesco Value DVD player and the picture quality is on a par with the build quality - ie utterly rubbish.

By stating 'supermarket' are you purely looking for the cheapest solution or does picture quality come in to it at all?

I afraid you get what you you pay for if you buy a £20 DVD player. The 'cheapest' player I would recommend with halfway decent PQ is something like the Toshiba SD-370E circa £50.

I am very happy with the sub £20 Alba STB8 which I found to work better with a given marginal signal than other even more expensive (even Sony) boxes

Many of the lower cost boxes are actually the same guts from one or two manufacturers marketed under several different "Brands"

Having said that the Woolworths Worthit box is getting excellent fedback on this forum.

I have been buying Tevion gear from Aldi, its very very good
they have DVD players on sale for £20, with a 3 year warranty, if you dont like it take it back.

The one I have for a Sunday show, is well on par with a Sony on sale at £35 in other supermakets, which I paid £80 last year.

So you takes your pick, but good for consumers.

Woops sorry got this wrong - thought we were talking DVB-T boxes - got it wrong - very sorry!

No real evidence on this subject except sons 3 year old ex Tesco previous cheapo - an Akura is still going strong with good PQ.

On the subject of Alba - yes Gilson I have seen your correction - I have an Alba DVD which is great. It was under £20 about a year ago. I saw it still on sale in Sainsbury's last week. I think it was £17.99. It is multi-region too.
