PVR80, £50 @ ebuyer

ebuyer are selling the factory-refurbished (grade A) Digihome PVR80 (80Gb) at £45.24 + delivery (add something to reach £49.99 and delivery's free). The factory-refurb 160Gb is £77.55.

I understand these are "record 1, watch 1" twin-tuners, you can't record 2 overlapping programmes, but at that price they seem a good alternative to a plain STB; can anyone tell me if they have "Freeview Playback" features from a firmware upgrade? Buffering of live TV to allow pausing during phone-calls is the most popular in this house.

They don't buffer unless you tell them too - for instance if you get a phone call press the Pause key and it will pause the programme you are watching - but only from the point when the button was pressed.

Regarding the Digihome, how do you get the twin record and series record updates? Over the air or do you have to do it manually?

Or is it non user changeable?

AND
Is it possible to upgrade the harddrive?

The harddrive may be upgraded to 160Gb, although not all drives work with it. There is a dedicated thread on this here somewhere, but the 160Gb models were all shipped with a specific Western Digital 160Gb drive.

There will be no further OTA updates for these old T810 boxes - they are not manufactured anymore, AFAIK, having been superceded by the T816, and now the T825. The software may be upgraded manually via the RS232 port on the PVR using a PC though. The T810 boxes are not Freeview Playback compliant (they were made before FP existed), and do not have any series link software. There was an unofficial twin record update which can be flashed manually, and this does have some preliminary support for the Freeview Playback "Accurate Recording" feature.

Will the un-official software work on the T816? It it does then maybe the extra memory in the T816 (64MB instead of 32MB) would alleviate the problem with the EPG data that the un-official software causes on the T810. If there is no prospect of any updates for the T816 this could possible result in a less buggy T816 but without any loss of features?

Nope, the v1.0 twin record T810 software will not work on the T816. I have tried, but the T816 simply won't accept T810 software files, and vice versa.
