I am new to this GPRS and WAP thing so please excuse my terminoligy(and spelling).I've got my T610 set up to send and receive emails using my home pc email address.I write an email, attach a photo then connect to send. Can anyone tell me how much this costs me?Anyone I've spoke to in my local Voda shop or Link don't seem to have a clue.Once it has been sent does it disconnect automatically?
Any help gratefully received.

Funnily enough, I've been setting up my T610 to do exactly the same, this evening.

It'll cost you however much you would normally pay for that much GPRS data. This means that sending a picture this way often ends up cheaper than sending an MMS message, but I digress...

The T610 closes the GRPS connection as soon as the e-mail has been sent.

I don't know if you've managed to do it yet, but I've got a couple of pointers for you:

1) You may have to use different GPRS setting than you do for normal WAP or GRPS usage -- this is the case on O2, I don't know about Vodafone.

2) If you enter the IP address of the server instead of the full name (for example 62.253.162.51 instead on pop.ntlworld.com), then you will find it works quicker, as the phone doesn't have to do a DNS lookup. To find the IP address, type "nslookup <address>" from a windows command prompt

3) It's likely your ISP restricts the usage of their outgoing mail server to their own IP addresses, or by use of SMTP authentication. The T610 doesn't support the latter, and the phone is obviously not within your ISP's address range. The best way round this is to use an outgoing server from your mobile service provider. I took a random guess at smtp.o2.co.uk, and it turned out it works. I suggest you try smtp.vodafone.net (212.183.156.228, to save you looking it up!)

Through trial and error I got it to work after a couple of hours sweating like a pig.It connects quickly and sends an email in seconds so I can only assume it is set up ok.I have a Freeserve email address and set up my phone using their procedure which was a big help.I phoned Vodafone Customer Services today who told me an email costs the same as an SMS and an attachment costs the same as an MMS which I didn't believe but I suppose I'll find out when my first bill comes in.

I have just got my T610 on O2 and am trying to set up my freeserve mail on it, but it won't let me, it keeps saying that it can't find the server - and anytime I try to send any emails it says I'm barred!!

HELP!!!!!

(I've even tried using the settings sent to me by the SE website!)

You can't use your freeserve e-mail on your phone becasue you need a freeserve internet connection.

Whilst we are on the subject, does anybody know if it is possible to receive Hotmail via the email facility on your mobile? If so, what are the settings?

It doesn't appear to be on hotmail. The only section about POP3 is for receiving other email at hotmail and not receiving hotmail at other locations. I know there was this thhing about hotmail not working with Outlook only Outlook Express.

Freeserve's own set-up is FREESERVE

Sony Ericsson has a configurator that also contains Freeserve as an option SONY ERICSSON

You can also set-up MMS from the O2 site, but that won't work for my either!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!
