Why is it that the quality of remote controllers seems to be falling, even with the high-end TV's?

I had fancied Sony's KDL-40W2000, a friend (with 3 'kids') paid good money for one a couple of months ago - great piece of kit ... but the remote is already scratched and looking seriously worn out!

That a company of Sony's standing is supplying painted plastic mouldings is, in my view, bad practice; my 7 or 8 yrs old Sony TV controller is pristine in comparison because the shell is manufactured using coloured plastic and is all the better and more durable for it!

Anyone know if the KDL-40W3000 is similarly compromised by a poor quality remote, the website doesn't reveal anything at all?

Accepted, but that doesn't excuse 'big names' supplying inferior products in the box - would probably be better and cheaper to produce a grey or black moulded remote ... imo!
Ugh! this ongoing pre-occupation with bright sparkly silver
