£125 BT Reconnection Fee
Netizen

Was thinking of ditching VM cable and going back to ADSL, using the old BT line we used to have here, so I asked BT how much to reactivate the line and the answer was £125.

How on earth is this a good way of welcoming old customers back? There's no chance of me going back when they want this much, I'd rather stick with the unsatisfactory cable broadband! They're missing out on line rental I could be paying them, regardless of the fact I wouldn't be using the phone package itself.

The BT line you have in your property... Do you still have the master socket there for it?

Please try connecting a phone... Do you hear a dial tone?

If you do have a dial tone - they'll connect you for free genrally as the line is still alive.

They'll normally only charge you the £124.99 if the line is faulty, or there has never been a line there before

The line definitely works, but having spoken to their reconnection people they were adamant it would cost £125 and there's no way around it. I guess if I were to reconnect to BT it's a case of phoning up until I get someone competent?

If you're wanting to transfer your number from Virgin then they may well charge you...

If you want the line connected with a new number then they'll probably do it for free.. 0808 100 7722

They must have misunderstood me, I'm with Virgin but only for broadband and never had the telephone service. I'm just put off trying to deal with them since the person I spoke to cut me off rather than let me explain for a third time!

Thanks for that, good to know Unfortunately I couldn't tie myself into 18 months as I'd want the option to switch back to cable at some point if it improved, plus I can't be certain I'll still be living here after that long.

Or if the line has been "disconnected"/inactive for more than 2 months (I think it's 2).
