I have just upgraded my system to the following:
Panasonic TX-32LMD70 LCD tv
Panasonic SC-PT450 Home Cinema Sound System
Pace SKY+ PVR3
The query I have is how do you get the TV sound to come out of the Home Cinema system.
My present connections are:
SKY+ TV out scart to AV1 on TV
HDMI out from Home Cinema to HDMI 1 on TV.
Any help would be much appreciated

You need to connect an Audio OUT from the TV to an Audio IN on the Home Cinema system.

The HDMI link you have between the two is one direction only unlike SCART which carries signals in both directions. So it will feed video and audio from the DVD to the TV but will not carry a return audio or video signal from the TV.

I believe the Home Cinema system you have has a Aux Audio In on the back in the form of Left and Right Analogue phonos. What you therefore need is a standard stereo phono to phono lead to connect those to the analogue audio OUT on the TV

Whilst I agree with Chris that you need an analog connection to route the TV sound to the Home cinema Amp, this should be used only for watching (say) the TV's digital tuner.

For 99.9% of your 'TV' viewing you should be watching via Sky+ and therefore the MOST IMPORTANT item missing in your setup is an optical digital sound cable running from the Sky+ to the Amp.

This will give you FULL DD 5.1 sound on all Sky movies and some other selected program.

Except that as far as I can see from a quick google this Home Cinema system doesn't have any digital inputs of either flavour!

Thanks guy's for info. Home Cinema kit does not have a digital input of any sort for audio, can I connect audio output from SKY+ box direct to Home cinema or is it best to use TV audio output?

Depends. If you never use the internal tuner of the TV then connect direct to the Sky box. But if you do watch analogue or freeview TV at all you might want to use the TV out.

The TV out will (should) carry whatever comes out of the speakers on the TV so should feed Sky when you are watching Sky or the internal tuner when watching that.

And of course it assumes the Sky box has analogue audio outs on the back as well as digital (be surprised if it didn't). One thing that you won't get however is any surround sound from this connection. The best you may be able to do is use the Dolby ProLogic on the Home Cinema system to generate a kind of surround effect.

But I do recall seeing other threads where it was mentioned that some Panasonic systems only allowed ProLogic on the internal DVD player, not on the Aux stereo audio in. Which could mean you only get sound out of the front speakers!

Nice one! Why do they make these things with so little flexibility?

How many pence would it cost to put a Toslink or Phono socket on the back?

After all the unit contains the necessary digital to analogue convertors anyway for the DVD player. So they don't have to add huge amounts of extra circuitry to make it work.
