Excellent price, just a shame that the brand new SONY isn't capable of making full use of Profile 1.1 media and the PS3 still outperforms the standalone
Makes you wonder how the other Blu-ray standalone manufacturers can justify their prices but certainly just like HD DVD the market will welcome a price crash (and free movies), it's about time the UK got better deals compared to the US consumers.

I've got an Xbox 360 and this TV.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-LE26.../dp/B000F4TC32

Would I be better off spending £120 on the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive or £250 on the Blu-Ray player I've mentioned above?

At the moment, I've got an £18 mini DVD player from Tesco for films.

Not sure - can't find a link to it.

I might actually just buy a Blu-Ray drive for my PC.

The only thing is I want to watch films on my 26" HD-Ready LCD TV - not my 15" CRT PC monitor.

Is that all?

I've got an idea - could I buy a Blu-Ray PC drive for my desktop and connect it to my LCD TV with a PC to SCART cable?

Blu-Ray PC drive for £130 inc VAT.

Scart can't carry HD. Why would you want to connect a PC to an LCD TV using that when you could use DVi, VGA or HDMI?

So what that's peanuts nowadays and there is a lot in the box,the specs on the Aldi site look good.

Because I'm a bit dopey and haven't looked at the back of my TV lately!

I've never bought a brand-new PC - have always upgraded every couple of years.

After upgrading to get Blu-Ray on my PC, it'll probably end up costing almost as much as the Aldi PC in the end.

Getting Blu-Ray movies to play on a PC isn't as simple as just buying a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD drive. From what I understand many modern PCs just can't handle the high bit-rates of these High Def formats. .
So depending on your specs, you may need to get a new Graphics card too, nothing expensive though apparently a £30 Radeon 2400pro can offload all the decoding from the CPU to a UVD (Unified Video Decoder) on the graphics card which in theory means it shouldn't matter how slow your PC is you'll get smooth playback.

I don't buy new stuff very often cos I don't always need the latest gizmos. I still use VCR's to record Tv and radio progs when I'm out.I guess it depends on what you want really. I think some of it is hype and some if it is genuinely good stuff that will give you hours of enjoyment.

Thing is you can't buy all of the goodies in the store and even if you could it's not so much fun if you can have anything you want.
