She could be an acronym that is an anagram of an acronym, or alternatively just an anarchic anachronism?

This is not the first time a character named Astrid has appeared in Doctor Who. A character of the same name appeared in a 1968 Patrick Troughton adventure.

Perhaps it's just a co-incidence, that "Astrid" actually means "beautiful god", and just happens to be an anagram of TARDIS? Or perhaps RTD had just been playing a lot of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass?

Whatever it means I bet the speculation and theory on here will turn out to be 10 times better and clever then what it actually turns out to be.

RTD - I find he has great ideas and great starts but always seems to muck up the end.

In the new trailer for VOTD the look The Doctor gives Astrid reminded me very much of the look The Doctor gave Rose when he was dressed up & she was a waitress in "Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel"

Perhaps Astrid isn't part of the Titanic's crew & is DW's equivalent of The Emergency Medical Hologram from ST-V

Or is it just that we on t'net have overactive imaginations?

Her full name is Astrid Peth

Astrid = TARDIS
Peth = Welsh for "Part of"

I think you can see where i am going with this one...

Looking at the DW Advent Calendar for the 16th, it seems that Astrid & The Doctor don't know each other - but then DW previews have always had a tendency to mislead
