Problem with Sony KDL-20S3000

Hi, I've just bought a Sony KDL-20S3000 to replace my old CRT tv that blew up, I've only had it a few days. This morning I tried to turn it on from the remote and it wouldn't. The green light came on for a few seconds then the red LED started flashing.

Four flashes then a pause and another four flashes and so on. I turned the TV off at the mains and then turned it back on, the TV started working again.

According to the manual I'm supposed to leave the TV turned off and call the Sony Service centre, but I'd like to know what those flashes mean first, does anyone know?

Four flashes is "inverter error", it may just have crashed and required reseting (by unplugging it from the mains).

Phew, that's a relief. I thought I was going to have to send it back. Thanks a lot Nigel.

Why can't Sony put those flash codes in the manual, instead of telling you to phone their support line?

I still wouldnt be happy, Do you think that this will never happen again? or is it the sign of things to come, keep a close eye on it for any other "Lock ups" etc, Sony vcrs were good for firmware lock ups that had to be resolved with a code from a "One for All" Universal remote, strange but true!
