Hi all

just had this delierved today and on most channels it is pretty awesome but naturally on programmes with what may be lower resoloution(think that is what it is) and I guess older outdated cameras etc: it looks a little less solid I guess.

does HD cover all channels recieved through satellite or just those compatible with modern bit rate?? technology

would it be worth investing in do you think to iron out the odd thing here or there that lacks the detail and richness or is that unchangable and sein stone given it's orirginal fromat of recording

or is it smewhat modifiable bycolour/backlight/tint/sharpness/brightness settings on TV

somhow I think that option may be unlikley!

has anyone else also noticed how LCD can show up CGI more also!

any opinions would be appreciated!

No.

Sky HD is pretty much just Sky+ with the HD channels bolted on.

Sky curently broadcasts about 12/14 HD channels. A couple of those are movies, which you only get if you subscribe for movies. A couple more are sports, ditto the subscription required.

Of the non-subscription channels, not all broadcast 100% HD material, it's a mix of SD and HD. BBC HD is only active for a portion of the day.

In short, HD content is still fairly limited.

Didin't stop me subscribing to it though!

(Mainly for sports in my case)

The SD channels are the same mixed bag of quality the same as you get on a normal Sky box.

I think most would agree that all channels through an HD box (even SD) look better than the standard Sky + box, I know mine certainly do but I guess some of that is due to the HDMI connection rather than scart.

Depends on your TV, and the quality of it's upscaler - on a good TV there's really nothing to choose between them for SD - and many people watch SD via SCART in order to get the auto-picture format switching that you don't on HDMI.

I guess that bascially means that the upscaler on this sharp model aint fantastic then: it was my fathers purchase you see but I can't help but enjoy it:

interesting what you say about all channels looking the better for it subscribing to HD

anyone know ho

The upscaler on a Sharp 42" ive seen is superb-as good on freeview as thru a V-box.

You can definitely improve the SD picture by playing about with your brightness/contrast etc, settings. I kept at mine for a couple of weeks and the picture was a lot better. Also remember it can take a few weeks for the picture to 'settle down' with a new LCD!

can it ?????????

mmmmmm

don't get me wrong: on most channels it is very impressive: just wondered about some of the others but I guess with some it is worth playing around!

I used a THX dvd to set up all the TV's in my house, DVD's like Star Wars etc, have a THX set up facility on them as an extra, and I could not believe the difference it made to my picture quality, before using it I tended to keep fiddling with the picture settings dependant on the programme I was watching.

I would really reccomend giving it a go.

The only thing about the THX set-up menu thats lacking is a colour set up feature, but other than that yea wow what a useful extra!
