Freeview HD whats needed
It seems we are are less than a year away from High Definition coming on freeview, BBC ITV 4, 5 and a few more all free... yipee...
But... Do we need new freeview set top boxes or will our HD TV's with built in freeview work fine?. |

You would certainly need a new set-top box to get HD, assuming it happens? - I wouldn't get excited yet!
![]() If you're wanting free HD I would suggest you look into FreeSat come March, which is likely to be a far better prospect. |

The range and quality of HD services on digital may be quite limited due to the bandwidth restrictions of the platform. There may be a single service from each of the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five but it's very unlikely there will be any room for "a few more". You will need a new set top box (or new iDTV) with a DVB-T2 tuner and MPEG4 decoding. The cost of first generation HD digital terrestrial receivers is likely to be relatively high compared with HD on other platforms using more mature technologies like DVB-S2. |
