Buying MP3 - DRM confusion

I'm looking at buying this but I'm abit confused about DRM.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...id%2Bstate.htm

On the sony site it says:

ATRAC, MP3, AAC (non DRM) and WMA (non DRM) compatible.

Does that mean I won't be able to play music files that I add from original disks, Would I be able to play tracks that I paid to download or if a friend sent me a track would I be able to add it? Thanks

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management, it means tracks that have been purchased from online music stores like MSN Music etc. If your player is non DRM you will not be able to transfer the tracks from your computer.

Some mp3 players let you do this, others don't. However, you can still transfer songs from your CDs to put on your player.

Not sure why exactly, something to do with ownership rights etc, someone more technical than me may be able to elaborate.

Music from original discs will be fine

Music downloaded from lost legal music sites won't.

You can buy the DRM free music from iTunes and put that on the device, alternately you can use programs to remove the DRM from iTunes music. So there are ways of getting DRM music on that device if you wished.
