Nothing great coming on, and it's almost like everywhere is playing Rock/Indie music.

I like the rock/indie scene and some bands are quality. But surely we need a bit of variety?

always buy the MOS cd's and clublands
then commercial dance is dead, clubland and mos is not dance anymore its "dj one beat with Dj one sample and the same woman doing vocals on every song"

cascada
ultra beat
Flip n Fill
Scooter (sell outs)
Styles (sell out)

if anyone thinks the above selection is good then you ain't listening to dance music, its more pop music.

Why is it that because someone doesn't like something, or loses interest, it's "dead"?

For me electronic/club/whatever is, quite rightly, heading back underground. Rather then judge by the Gorgonzola that gets passed of as "dance music" in the charts start looking around and notice some of the most exciting form of the genre being produced in a long while.

Artists like 16 Bit Lolita's and Deadmau5 are really tearing it up at the moment.

To say it's dead is a sweeping generalisation.
Considering the amount of rock bands that incorporate dance into their sound (exhibit A m'lud - Bloc Party - Flux) it's far from dead or untrendy.
Not to mention that many 'rock' releases still come with a handful of dance mixes.

It irritates the poop out of me when some no mark DJ remixes a classic song, rock song, ballad etc. onto a stupid beat. Listen to Galaxy FM for half an hour and you'll find a number of these.

hitting nails on heads since whenever he was born!

i'm leaving it there - even i'm getting tired of standing up for good dance music on this forum.
dig a bit deeper boys and girls - there will be something out there that you will enjoy dancing to.

I remember a few years ago- around 1999- when every other song was a dance song. Now you very rarely hear dance music- even on stations like Galaxy which seems to play urban exclusively. All the dance clubs around here have gone indie, which is no bad thing, but I like dance music so it's a shame you can't hear it much anymore

you won't hear any if you listen to urban radio stations and attend high street indie clubs.

I'd say the top four have always been a lot closer to pop music than dance music. (Has Cascada ever been anything but pop music?) As for Styles, I'd say he is still a bit further away from pop music than the others. Listening to some of his recent stuff, then listening to anything from the others and there is still a difference.

scooter was belting out tracks like endless summer and back in the uk around 1994, both still considered big dance tracks (probably more happy hardcore).

Styles is a sellout, former hardcore god teaming with ultrabeat and the rest of the "dj one beats", selling out all his old tunes and rehasing them to make abit more cash and women.

Styles may have worked with 'pop-dance' acts in recent years, but I still think there is a difference between someone who has worked with 'pop-dance' acts, but still maintains a respectable distance, rarely charting in their own right, and someone like Cascada who have never been anything else but bubble-gum pop masquarading as dance, churning out song after song to chase chart positions. At least in that respect, I feel Styles should still be bracketed away from 'acts' like Cascada.

I'd probably put Styles in the same bracket as Oakenfold. Well regarded on the club scene and has dabbled in 'pop-dance' (Big Brother Theme, Starry Eyed Surprise), that has seem him occasionally trouble the charts, but generally stays true to his work, without worry of whether it will chart.

For me it's gone the other way.

Admittedly from a commercial point of view it has died as all we get now is Cascada or Fedde Le Grande and their soundalikes.

However since Itunes launched i've been getting back into trance more and more. There have been some cracking dance tunes this year however they are not the commercially big smashes.

On no !! I find myself almost agreeing Mr Matt again !!

Wouldn't include Styles though ! His one remix on the latest Cascada cover is the best of the lot !

As for the rest....most are not really dance music any longer ! As said here, more like inoffensive, bubble-gum, cheesy, hands-up, Euro pop ! Perhaps the reason why acts like Cascada have to chase chart success is so that they can pay the original artists for using their music ?

I take Mr Matt won't be getting a ticket for the Clubland tour next year ? Not even for a bit of Booty Luv ?

Scooter - pop music??

Thats an ignorant post, alot of Scooter's success has been built on being freshing and different to the Dance/Hardcore scene in the early 90's and they have carried on and built on that success - their albums are certainly not commercial or pop. No band survives for 14 years without having talent and alot of creativity.

Its easy for people to pick on their commercial hits such as "The Logical Song" and not have seen the big picture. In 1997/8 Scooter released a serious trance track under the pseudomyn of Ratty "Sunrise" this was a massive success all over the trance scene.

Well, I hope the type of dance music where an old song gets ruined by a high squeeky voice drops dead of something very painful right now. But the likes Booty Luv who bring out catchy and original songs are fine by me.
