The Rhydian thread goes too quickly to be sure of getting an answer but I was wondering what anyone knows about Rhyds interest in Autism as he has apparantly talked about wanting to donate a goodly 50% of his earnings to Autism and Carers.

Such a desire usually comes from some close (family?) exposure to the condition and I was curious to know what that might be?

Or maybe he is just a charitable person that wants to help

Top man!

I don't really think its any of your business why
Just be happy that he is. Not many people do that.

His mum works for a caring charity so that is probably the connection

Yes but there is usually a reason why someone picks Autism as their charity.

His singing teacher and her husband have an autistic child and have set up a charity to benefit autistic children.

Rhydian want's to help support this charity along with the one his mother works for for young carers.

Thanks for that and for the other replys filling in the gaps. I knew that if he had made such a statement about wanting to give to such charities there would have been some reason and that he would have said why.

Good on him. My interest is in Aspergers which is the "high functioning" end of Autism, but the whole range of Austistic spectrum conditions needs much more awareness and support and therefore money to fund that.

Thanks for that, it's another interesting fact we now know about Rhydian.

Just noticed this but it is no less my business than many of the other things that Rhydian has talked about and why should I not want to know what has prompted his interest?

The degree of personnal exposure he has had to Autism and its nature could be an indicator of how much he may get involved as well as donating.

I am involved in an organisation that tries to raise awareness about neurological conditions including Aspergers and his interest is worth noting.

You know what, if he does that, I will vote even MORE than last time for him.

I follow Autism and all the various aspects connected with it and I also know friends that have been Carers. Both causes are worthy. Kudos to him that he isn't greedy.

neelia , OMG. Aspergers, Autism, ADD, ADHD....please PM me. This is indeed very interesting.

Glad there is an organisation that tries to raise awareneed. I only knew about the NAS.

I would also like to know what made Rhyd choose those 2?
Carers it's obvious, as his mum has been in the field, but Autism? perhaps the carers that have more dificulties in the running of a normal, day to day , life are the carers of autistic persons?

Just pm'd you

If anyone else is interested (and I hope this doesn't break any forum rules)

DANDA (Developmental Adult Neuro-Diversity Association) is as far as we know the only charity in the world that deals with the range of neurological conditions Aspergers, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia and AD(H)D as few people have just one and no one is really interested in adults but children grow into them given half a chance.

Danda doesn't deal with the low functioning end of Autism.
http://www.danda.org.uk/ just high functioning and Aspergers

GG, silly me... just look at the video I quoted above you. Rhydian speaks of why he has decided to raise awareness for those 2 charities and give them 50% of his earnings.

That is touching.

I know and no one not even the Sun or any of the other paper has in anyway made reference to this.

He should win for the fact that he can sing, he has fantastic talent. He is generoous beyond all.

He is just fantastic.

The Papers should be made aware of this.

I think it's to his credit that none of this has been used in his pre-performance VT's. He just relies on his voice to get votes.

I think it might backfire if this did come out in a bg way in the papers. Some would twist it as a ploy to get votes.

...well, it's not like he would be forced to do so, anyway. And he IS the Favourite to win.

So he kind of has the position to speak from. And it's about giving away, not about buying a house for his mum.... or a car or something frivolous.
TBH, I think he is very altruistic. He has spoken before about trying to raise awareness for charities , even in a few interviews.

Oh and I have no doubt that it is sincere. However there will always be some ready to say that that was hy he won.
