Seriously!!

When she's excited she can squirt horrible grey fishy smelling fluid for a few feet. It comes from her anal glands. It stinks to high heavens. Anybody body elses cats do this. Bella is 2 and in very good health. Its only happened a few times but seemingly some females do it when excited. She's also been dressed.

Any vet nurses care to tell me if I just have to grin and bare it LOL. I'm dreading her ever doing it in front of anyone else. So far she's saved it all up for me!!

Never heard of it! Sounds nasty though, there must be something you can do about it.

Ew!!! Thats a new one on me!!!!

Maybe you could have her anal glands removed? Or maybe she's got an infection - have you tried googling it?

I've googled " cat squirts fishy liquid" LOL and thats how I found out thats what it was. It smells terrible.

Trust me to get the squirter. I'm waiting on the usual helpful remarks and maybe some laughs out of the comments on this.

I'm pretty sure theres no infection. It smells totally different from an abscess smell. Arent pets delightful.

My dog had his anal glands removed a few weeks ago. It's a horrible operation, and I certainly wouldn't have it done, unless it was an absolute medical necessity.

It is good that your cat is flushing them out herself, as she won't then be prone to infections and abcesses, but I can appreciate that there is a time and a place

I've not known any of my cats to do this. (I've has both male and female cats). Are you sure she does not need a vet to look at her?

Honestly if I thought she needed a vet I would be right there. She's really healthy and this is just her way of showing me how excited she is LOL.

I do plan on talking to my vet about it in the new year about it though.

I'm keeping evrything crossed that she doesn't show off at xmas when everyone is here. She's a very confident little girl and will be into everything. I've had over a dozen cats in my life and still have 6 here but she is so very different. She's got attitude in bucketfuls.

I'm sure the OP is referring to the cat "spraying" ... which cats do when marking their territory. Is the cat jealous for any particular reason you can think of? (new cat, baby, member of household.... etc etc etc...)

(I realise though that "spraying" in the title wouldn't have been nearly as "headline grabbing" as "squirting" now would it )

The cat isn't spraying. This isn't urine and like rotten fish and decomposed mouse smells. I do know the difference. It isn't sprayed its squirted out at high force and reaches 4 feet or more! I've had cats for years and years and had cats (male and female and its not the same. This only happens when the cat is "pleased". Its nothing to do with territory.

One of my cats does this too, and yes, it does pong. I don't know what to do about it either.

Oh, and she snores too.

Here she is looking like butter wouldn't melt.

Just thought I'd pop in and say you are definitely not alone - as previous posts might suggest otherwise.

All your cats are so adorable.

I used to have a cat called Clouseau (my mum used to spell it Closo) and she was so adorable. I loved her so much. I really missed leaving her behind when I went into care.

Unfortunately, she died of a heart attack. It still makes me really upset and that was 2 years ago.

I really want another cat. I'm such a cat lover. We have a shelter about 10 miles from us, but I suffer from agoraphobia so I can't get to it.

Aww cute cats!

My cat doesn't do this But I had a dog once that did something similar, although it wasn't squirted out, just left on areas where it had been sitting....! Very gross. I think dogs do it because they need their anal glands expressed (otherwise the vet has to do it or something).

it's probabley an infection in her anal gland's , more common in dog's than in cat's , the cat probabley need's a course of antibiotic's to clear it up here's a link to have a read http://www.peteducation.com/article....&articleid=509
