Hello guys, just to say that this has just come up on the BBC news: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7145965.stm

It says that David Tennant will be leaving after the next series

Let me know what you think

Bye!!

It doesn't quite confirm that Tennant is leaving, just that Tate thinks he might be.

What is does do is confirm that Tate is only doing one season, so the Donna story will be wrapped up by the end of S4. Personally, I still believe Donna is intended to be this year's Bad Wolf/Torchwood/Saxon arc, now even more so.

Regards,

Cypher

Yep! The cat's out of the bag this time. I was listening to the show and I think Catherine didn't realise that it was still supposed to be a secret. What she said was that "This will be David's last SERIES" as the Doctor but that he would be doing the specials. She also said she was only a companion for this series.
So now the real speculation starts about the 11th Doctor.

Yes, that's what I took from this too. Donna's only in season 4, and David Tennant might leave at the end of season 4 but might be back.

I would say, however, that I would think Tennant will be in the three 2009 specials. I think it would be pretty poor showing if a new Doctor kicked off his era with three specials rather than a full season and I doubt the BBC would want that either.

I'm very surprised there aren't more comments about this pure speculation. I was expecting the board to explode with fan-boy panic

perhaps the three specials are his swansong and we start series 5 with a new Doctor, new production team etc...

She's probably right.

DT's last full season with 3 spectacular specials to bow him out leaving the BBC to recast or "Rest" it again.

Eddie Izzard once did a sketch where he said he had heard on the radio on the way in to the theatre that Englebert Humpedink had died, and then spent the next 10 minutes whilst he was doing some more material alternately shaking his head and nodding without saying anything and completely screwing with the audience as to whether it was true or not.

I know what they felt like now.

Note to BBC psych ops department: yes, very clever and good for publicity , but FFS PACK IT IN.

isn't it season 4, xmas special and three specials in 2009?

It's pure speculation, and what Catherine said she thinks, that isnt saying he is.
Hmmm... Donna only for 1 series eh.

is this a bit of an own goal by a fellow cast member (who should have been briefed by the Press/Pr machine about questions like this coming up as they frequently do) or is it a deliberate leak as either the story is true or they are trying to generate even more speculation for series 4?

agreed

Its another example (in the full firmament of them) of RTD and the BBC having complete contempt for the real fans fo the show. Lies are told constantly and we are treated like scum. THEY ride roughshod over our feelings in the way they act and the decisions they make.

I wouldnt beleieve anything that comes from that ugly, talented woman's mouth anyway. If it wasnt for RTD hiring her then we would still be able to look forward to the next (FINAL?) series..

Why should you care, you have already stated that you won't be watching after VotD due to CT's involvement. Any chance of sticking to that?

As for your final "comment" - ugly AND talented?

Why is this news? Anybody with half a brain could have worked out that series 4 would be his last full series.

Hmm, didn't he say a few days ago that he was staying as he was too selfish to see anyone else in the role? I think it would be stupid putting his exit in a special episode, as people who only watch the series and not the specials would get confused by the sudden change in doctor.

Not really. They said that the break in '09 was because of Tennant and Davies other commitments. But if he's not planning to be back in 2010, then surely they'd just have just said due to Davies commitments and then announced Tennant's exit.

what if the regeneration was the cliffhanger at the end of the three specials so they can start with a new Doctor at the beginning of series 5? the specials will go out in 2009 and the full series back in 2010 so it isn't as if people would wait a very long time to see the new guy in action.

one way or another the BBC should come clean regarding this. I don't buy into the thought that by announcing his departure would somehow alienate viewers..never hurt the series in the past or any other when a lead character was leaving. in most cases it had the opposite effect as more people tuned in to see how the storyline developed leading up to their departure.

Well, that's good news that Tate is leaving.

Will await more official news concerning Tennant.

What? That suggests that RTD and Tennant won't be back for the 5th series, which is what anybody would have worked out in the first place. Series 4 is still Tennants last full series.

If true I'll settle for that.

I was only expecting to get 2 series out of him so the next one plus the 3 specials is pretty much a bonus.

Just so long as they cast the right person for the next Doctor

Interesting that CT has let the cat out of the bag like this. When she was on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross this time last year, she was quite cagey about the Runaway Bride episode because of "the Doctor Who police". A year on and she is happily blabbing!
