We don't know that yet, if he returns in 2010 with series 5, then this won't be his last full series.

Just so long as they cast the right person for the next Doctor”

I still wouldn't want to see him go.

Because she's not back after series 4, so they can't do much about it once she's filmed alot of the eps and has been paid.

Is that official then, or just an assumption?

No, it doesn't. They've said its due to Tennant and Davies' other commitments which suggests they will be back for Series 5.

Well she wouldn't say it's her last if it's not.

Sorry, I missed that line in the report.

Anyway, back to the original post and thread title, all that she said was that she thought it was maybeDT's last, not that it was his last.

Quote:
“"I think it's maybe David's last series."”

But (crucially, and also to prove that I have now read ALL of the article ) later in the interview

Quote:
“When pressed on whether Tennant would return to play the timelord in special Dr Who shows in future, Tate replied: "Possibly."”

which we already suspect would be the case for the 2009 specials, so really it's nothing new (having been plenty of speculation about 2010 and beyond)

Is Martha back in the role for the specials and 5th series? If Tate's leaving.

or could this explain the return of Billie who said in the past she would only come back for DT's last episode(s)

Maybe, but I was asking whether people think Freema will carry on as the doctor's companion after Tate leaves.

my own hunch (it is only a hunch) is that series 4 could be the closing chapter for both of them..Donna has obviously been brought back for a reason and it has always been said that Freema would only be in so many episodes.

It's about time we had the first ginger doctor, either Julian Rhind Tutt or maybe Kevin Mckidd, now that Journeyman looks like it's being cancelled by NBC

I wouldnt beleieve anything that comes from that ugly, talented woman's mouth anyway. If it wasnt for RTD hiring her then we would still be able to look forward to the next (FINAL?) series..”

Stop being so over-dramatic

Theres nothing wrong with CT.

If you listen to it - Donna was very confused and was completely unsure as to what was happening.

If DT is leaving, they'll need to have an existing Who character or companion there throughout the transition. The fact that Billie was the one constant factor through the Eccleston to Tennant regeneration made it all the more easy for the viewers.

So if they're going to have Tennant regenerate, they couldn't really go wrong with having Freema there. Maybe even Captain Jack.

Well all that article confirms is the fact that Tate's only doing one series, and what do they put as headline? Tennant leaving. If DT's doing the specials, how will CT know if he's leaving or not? Ok, they may have talked about it, but chit-chat's not set in stone. I'm only relying on official press releases for information about the series. Anything else I regard as needless speculation.

So someone leaked out some big Doctor Who news, with just over a week to go before the Christmas special. Us old fans are not being treated with contempt as some have suggested. The show has regained its old creadbility. The main difference is you have to create a event for people to watch. We have more then 3 TV channels now, so headline grabbing is neccessary to establish an audience and of course the continuation of the show.

I personally reckon DT will do the specials allowing the new doctor a complete season to establish the character. DT has got better, but still not a patch on CE.

Hopefully not the Rani...not that I minded her, but to move from a universe with only one Timelord surviving, to three would be a bit too much.

Bit like 'Lost' where what initially appeared to be a deserted island turns out to be the most populated island on Earth...

I just really like the idea of the companion who turns out to be the real enemy - simple, but effective, and there's potential for a great story there. Plus, it does tie in with:

1) RTD saying that the S4 arc relates to something the Master said in LOTTL - he definitely made a remark about having the watch the women, and, more to the point, Lucy Saxon was his companion;

2) The casting decision to bring Tate back, as she's ideally placed to slip back innocently into the Doctor's life with a malevolent agenda;

3) The end of series 4 is looking very companion-orientated, with Rose, Jack & Martha returning, maybe they're uniting against an evil companion in the finale?

4) As we now know, Donna is only around for a year.

Was also suggested that Donna was the one who picked up the Master's ring in LOTTL - perhaps she's been corrupted as a result.

Cypher

could she have been unwittingly 'recruited' by someone who wants eyes and ears on The Doctor?

not sure want The Rani either tbh...wasn't fascinated by the character in the classic series.

didn't RTD say that the hand in the jar still has a pivotal part to play in the unfolding events of series 4?

But DT's already said he's doing the specials after series 4 and Rose as far as I'm aware is only in a few shows in series 4.

It'll be a shame when he does leave but the show won't die. When Tom left, he'd been in the role for 7 years and was a hugely popular Dr (still quite a few peoples favourite and overall 2nd after David) yet the show's ratings PICKED UP when Peter Davison's first episodes aired.
