With CT confirming what I suspected that she will only be in one series I'm guessing that

Series 4 finale

Donna dies
Martha carries on in her role as earthbound support character aka the new Brigadier (or Mickey/Jackie if you want a new series example).
Rose carries on as full time companion into the Specials.

Special 3 - DT leaves, Rose decides to ditch the new Doctor

Series 5
New Doctor picks up new companion, Martha as recurring character.

I don't think Rose is back permanently so I doubt she'll do the specials, now that Billie's got a healthy acting career.

The BBC should stop ramping up these rumours - for heavens sake they've the stupidly to put this on their own site yet some at the BBC knows when DT is leaving. How up their own arses can they get?

The show should be strong enough to hold it's own without numerous 'special guest stars' (I'm bored of Kylie before she's even appeared), being plastered over every magazine cover and endless speculation.

Yes, BBC I know there's an episide of Doctor Who on Christmas Day - I don't need another rumour or speculation to remind me. Just release an official statement, preferably from the actor or his agent - not your press office (please prove that you have learnt from Eccleston's departure) and let me get on with watching what could, underneath all the hype, be a good programme.

Well the specials won't take that long to make, afterall DT is doing 6 months plus on stage in the same year.

You can certainly see the BBC wanting Billie and David to star in the specials (with Freema, John B and Liz S guesting) and before it was confirmed that Billie was in Series 4 at least one newspaper claimed it was the specials that Billie was returning for.

Billie has said that she would like to be in Davids final story which will most likely be the 3rd special and if she is around from Series 4 Ep 11 to Ep 13 I can't see them writing her out again only to return three stories later.

I'm not saying this is what I want to happen but it does seem a strong possibility to me.

Be sad to see him go when he does-but i'll wait for official confirmation rather than 'maybe', 'possibly' and the such like.

But thats what Doctor Who is all about and i'm sure the next will be just as good as CE and DT

I can't keep up with this. First, he's staying, now he's leaving. But it may all be speculation.

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Exactly - let's just leave all the speculation be and just watch the show.

I'm surprised people are getting confused about David Tennant leaving again.

Catherine Tate said possibly, she didn't say it was definate.

So until I hear an actual Press Conference actually confirm he's leaving properly and NO "maybe" or "possibly" than I'll carry one knowing that David Tennant will still be in the "Specials" (YAY!!!!!).

As for the Campanion thing I must be the only one here thinking that both Freema Agyeman and Billie Piper will be in the "Specials" which is why they're doing the "more than one Campanion" thing now.

Either that or it's just wishful thinking on my part because I like both Martha and Rose. (Nothing against Donna, I personally thought she was alright but Catherine Tate herself has just confirmed she's leaving).

This is all IMVOO though. Hope I made sense.

You are very much correct, however the whole story has not been helped by the rather lazy BBC News headline which still reads "Tennant 'is leaving Doctor Who'" (and still has no question mark either).

ok here's my theory-

DT will be in it through series 5, but we will have lots of 'will he wont he' cliffhangers along the way to really milk the suspense.
Martha will be the Jackie/ Mickie/ Brigadier type recurring character.
Donna's story arc will revolved around her being not quite cut out for the role and she will end up perishing due to the jeopardy she faces via the doctor. Losing her makes the dr realise he must risk the universe to get rose back, this pave the way for a 'Epic' universe in the balance season finale, ending with the doctor vanished, either dead or trapped in the alternative universe.

The 4 episodes rose is rumourd to be back for will be the 'Dr Lite' one which the current set pictures are from, and the specials. Her appearance in the dr lite will be to reintroduce her to the auidience (as alwasy happens in a soap when an old character is going to come back there is always some narrative device to 'remind' people- peggy kitchell starts ringing 'gwaaant' and looking at a photo of him, then he comes bacl)

The specials will be based around the doctor's Search for Rose Tyler...

I don't know wether he's staying for series 5 but can we just confirm the facts.

Series 4: airs in Spring 2008. David Tennant. Catherine Tate. Freema. Billie Piper. Russell T Davis.

Specials: air 2009. David Tennant. Russell T Davis.

Series 5. Airs 2010. Not know but not Catherine Tate.

Ok so have I got this right. Can everyone agree that this is what we know for sure. because I finding it hard to seperate fact from speculation. Anything other than this is speculation. right?

Based on this and this

If so then good and lets get on with the speculation. Mine speculation is that DT will stay for series 5 because otherwise he was just messing them about by having the specials to accomondate his other projects.

also does anyone know how far only into the interview Tate comes on? Am listening now but hate Ross and refuse to listen to three hours of waffle. First half an hour? Second hour? anyone?

True, good point.

The BBC should've been more clear really.

Great news that CT is only doing one series, don't like the woman at all. Didn't Tennant say he wanted time out to do McBeth, before coming back for the 5th series...?

Or is it just me?

Yup, you're absolutely right.

Nobody knows why there are going to be specials rather than a full series in 2009, but it's highly unlikely that they put the whole thing on hold so that David Tennant could do Shakespeare. The smart money is on it being a time when they can set about getting the programme ready to be shot in HD.

Shooting in HD isn't that different. they just need new equipment! Maybe they're saving money for that.

I think it's to give everyone a little break, and maybe to work on other projects if they want. I think the break is a good idea as it keeps people wanting more!

And sets. Plus there's all the logistical issues with the CGI.

Hate to be a party pooper, but if you actually listen to the interview she was definitely caught out by Wossy's question and I think she gave away more than she was supposed to!
Get used to it folks, DT is leaving after or during the specials, so enjoy him while he's here.

David Tennant last week - "I'm taking a year off but I'll be back in 2009. I'm too self-centered to let anyone else be the Doctor.".

If he was going to leave, why on earth would they schedule a year off for him!?
