Strictly Come Dancing - A Farce?
Up until now, this program was the highlight of mine, and many others year. A welcome change from so called reality tv like 'Big Brother'
However Len and Bruno have lost it. Marking tens for dances that deserve 7s or 8s, Craig not even saving his 10 for a good dance, Arlene spending too much time thinking of a new alliteration to notice the dancing and Bruce butting in with "funny" comments. Add that to the bickering between the judges and the clearly outragous results and you have a farce. If they don't get their act together by next year, they are going to lose a LOT of viewers. And before anyone calls me a "Matt hater" etc, I'm not, I just wish the program was based on DANCING not sympathy, like it used to be. Last edited by jane-hen12 : 15-12-2007 at 23:12. I think we need to change at least 2 of the judges, preferably Len and Bruno, get that old guy off It Takes Two in and Karen Hardy

agreed! L and B now think they are celebs in their own right, and so think they can do anything.
But judges shouldn't have favorites...right?! |

No Phillip Jackson. He is boring. I would replace Goodman with Karen Hardy without a shadow of doubt. Would be inclined to keep Bruno as with three other reasonably sensible judges, his eccentricity could be quite entertaining. If Bruno were to go I would look to replace him maybe with Brendan?? |

I think the judges we have already are fine. If we got rid of some and replaced them with others, there would be complaints about the new ones.

I'd miss Anton too much if he wasn't dancing!!
Brendan annoys me to be honest. Judges are ment to be fair and inforce rules Brendan breaks them far to much to judge. |

Jane-hen12 I agree with all you said. I have been an obcessie of this show since it started but I'm not even going to bother watching the final this year as the Judges (Len and Bruno especially) have made this show a joke.

Maybe replace Len and Arlene with Karen Hardy and Anton - they really could judge and score fairly I think. (except I would miss both of them dancing

Even if they are judges they can still be dancing. Brendan danced in the NZ version while he was also a judge. It'd be a good idea to get the judges/host/hostess who can judges and dance. Good value for money

I think they have had a good go now-it's time to give someone else a turn. Clean sweep - let them all retire gracefully. |

yeah, maybe they should get fresh judges each series.
then they cant compare with the performance of the last one and the standard of the last one, as i'm sure the performance seems different when you're there instead of watchin it on tele |

I agree I have always loved watching strictly but the judges i.e Len and Bruno have ruined it for me this year, they say things and score things that is just pathetic. I really dislike the dance off too

the risk is if they are dancing as well, they will want to win, and so may mark/save worse dancers to increase their chance. i doubt most of them would do it but its still possible
and he is an excellent judge. |

Len is no longer fulfilling his role as technical expert (due to the loss of his 1-7 paddles) So I think we need at least one ballroom and one latin expert to replace two of the judges (replacements for Len and possibly Bruno perhaps, although I do think Bruno has some entertainment value). All rounders in ballroom/latin would be better of course. My concern is that unless that happens, the judges' marks will never have any credibility. Even Craig, who I would like to keep on the panel, has his shortcomings, since although conscientious in his marking he can miss things, but that wouldn't be so much of a problem if there were two experts we could depend upon to pick up on things.

I love the show and all the characters - the rows between the judges are hilarious! I've watched all the other series and for me the show is as good as ever.
I just wish people would stop comparing dances from different series. For me there is no point in doing that as each series is different in some way, celebs, format, music, - different every thing! Why can't people just enjoy the show for what it is i.e. a light hearted family entertainment show that involves a dancing competition raising money for charity? |

I accept you're happy with it as it is. However some alterations to the judging panel would improve it for me. Just a difference of opinion, due to us looking for different things from the same programme, I think!

This series has been the most controversial yet, due of course to the conflicting opinions of what the programme is all about. Dancing competition or purely an entertainment show. I believe the BeeB is quite happy for this confusion to carry on as it assumes we will keep voting for our 'favourite' no matter what. After all it's hardly going to preview the next series as a celeb dancing competition. It would kill it stone dead with alot of fans.
Therefore to regain credibility with all of us, the producers have to change what appears to be the two most contentious issues namely. 1. The judges must score on ability only, not for any other reason. Unjustified 10's have got to go. 2. The dance off should be scrapped. It hasn't worked and has resulted in glaring unfairness. eg Gabby Can't see it happening of course, so at the very least get rid of Len and Bruno. Replace with Karen and Ian W. Both would be like a breath of fresh air and would keep Craig and Arlene on there toes. At least we would have credible scoring. |

And unless you're prepared to publicise your dance credentials, this degree of second-guessing judge marking is the farce. |

If we're going to have judges who have competed in it, have it as ones who have won! They then know what it takes to get there. And even up the male:female ratio, I'm sure Arlene only votes on if she fancys the male. |

I think we need to change about 2,000 forum posters, you're all a bunch of nutters.
