Although most of us won't be pro dancers. We have eyes. Everyone goes on about the "entertainment show" and the judges are NOT entertaining, in my opinion

I agree that the judging panel need a bit of an update. An additional judge who knows about ballroom would be an asset. Either the knocked out professional from the week before guesting on the panel or a judge who is a dancer. Philip Jackson is so boring I wouldnt want it to be him.

5 judges would make a dance off fairer as it is really at the moment all about Len. I would suggest John Byrnes from series 1 as the extra judge. He already does some consultancy work for the BBC on this series, cant think why they dont use him. He has a full time dance school and a young family so wouldnt want to dance on the show (no time) but him as a judge would be really good provided Len would let him have an opinion and not try to shout him down like he does with the others. He is actually better qualified than Len to do it anyway so would be the head judge.

Philip is not a consistent judge he would be a disaster on the main panel, many a time he has not marked a couple through to a final in a competition then in that final marked the same couple first - classic bad judging.

Whilst Karen has the credentials the very fact she has danced ont the programme would mean she wouldnt work on the panel for me.

There are loads of great judges out there with the credentials and the presonality to do it

For the sake of SCD, quality control of judges is of the first essence. The Lord Chancellor monitors the performance of all his judges, quietly appointing and firing them after expert evaluation.


Technical knowledge of dance is one aspect,
artistic judgment is another.

But the most important attribute of a judge is impartiality, and in this respect the layman jury repeatedly show up better than one judge in particular.

It's the inconsistency that is an issue. Sometimes they appear to be going for performance and sometimes they seem to want the technicalities correct. For a '10' or anything approaching it both these elements should be in place. On top of this there is that extra magic chemistry that Karen Hardy talks about. I can think of very few, if any, dances where all three elements have been present.

Plus they expect different things from each individual, resulting in Alesha losing marks because they want "perfection" and Matt getting 40 for trying.


Note: I don't think Matts waltz was bad, it just wasn't as good as Gethins or Aleshas.

There are too many different dances for a good result. They should all have to do the same thing.

All week I was expecting an announcement that the dance off for the semis would be the Argentine Tango, regardless of the scores. That would've been so much fairer!

Umm, exactly in what sense is "Oooh, I love XYZ, the judges are Evil for voting them out, I know more than the lot of you, it's a Conspiracy because of ABC" a valid point? Especially when repeated 2,000 times?

I've seen dozens of threads today which are variations on that topic, and almost none about dancing. Ironically, the same people who complain that the show isn't about dancing, seem to want to make the forum not about dancing.


I am indeed - although I'm not slagging people off personally, unlike you. But that doesn't make me wrong.


About 20 years' partner dancing, mainly in Modern Jive, Salsa, and a couple of years Argentine Tango, plus some dabbling in ballroom. And yes, I've declared this experience in previous posts - you know, the ones where I talk about dancing - I'm happy to find them if you'd like proof.

My post was intended to help people focus on the dancing rather than the bitching and whingeing that seems to have taken over this forum. And yes, it may well contribute zero, but some posts seem to be contributing much less than that

I think most of the anger is due to the fact that people resent attempts to manipulate them or make them look fools, others of course don't care. I suspect because they place themselves in a catergory above " us plebians" alongside the manipulators.

Len is an absolute disgrace.

- and almost no threads talking about dancing, then it's difficult to avoid the impression that the atmosphere of this forum has gone into "hysterical" mode.

How about some positive contributions, huh? Or, and I realise I'm possibly a lone voice in the wilderness here, we could possibly talk about dancing.

Oh, I SO loved this show, but this series has gone so far wrong, I think I'll have to give it a miss next time round.

The judges have gone totally haywire.

Len and Bruno seem to think they are some sort of Hollywood patriarchs whose word is law. They aren't.
They have been inconsistant and contradicted and counter contradicted themselves. Some of their scoring has been totally bizarre.

One week they have voted on 'what they've seen on the night' and the next week has been 'on the potential they could see' or 'what they have done in previous dances'.

Well, please make your mind up, because as a former dance teacher and judge, it has to be one or the other or a combination of all three, but you can't change your mind every other week.

Of them all, Craig is the only one I have any respect for.

He is consistant, honest and marks what he sees.

His only failing is he makes derogatory , personal comments about the celebrities.

Criticise by all means, but make it positive and constructive, not personal.

Will miss the show, but i think it will have to go as its current form is doing my head in.


I hope I have better luck with 'Dancing On Ice' in the New Year!

I could not agree more! I loved the show so much the last two years - aside from the inconsistencies and favouritism shown to some degree then - but this year, Len and Bruno in particular have ruined it. The most ridiculous overmarking, Len's extreme rudeness to the other judges, need I go on?

I agree that replacing them is a vital necessity: also think Karen Hardy would be a good choice, but what about an 'educated layperson' too? John Barrowman would be great...

Watching ITT recently I was very impressed with the comments made by James Jordan. I know at the moment he is still a competition dancer, but I think he would make an excellent judge eventually.
I think Karen Hardy would make a very good unbiased judge.
Arlen should stop these silly alliterations, she looks pathetic stumbling over words that you know she has rehearsed before the show. She is also biased towards certain people, seemingly regardless of how well or badly they dance.
Len is far too big for his boots now and thinks he's king of the panel and able to out-shout anyone who doesn't agree with him, especially Arlene.
Bruno is just a joke, mostly, and doesn't really add anything useful for the contestants.
Craig is the only one I have any respect for, but even he can get carried away - look at the 10 he gave to Matt and Flavia's waltz - no way was that merited.

Just my views.

The judges choice, especially so late in the contest, makes the show a farce...but the high scoring is totally destroying the show. A 10 is utterly devalued.

Oh and I wonder why!!!!!
