My phone uses 8Gb MS Micro M2 cards without any probs.

Many people are walking around with phones that will accept an 8Gb card.

Less than a second is not what i call slow start & if the card is full up
it does take a while to browse through the files as there are loads of tracks, this is the same for any storage device that is full of files. |

The sound quality on my old K750i is decent enough .... I'd imagine on newer phones it's even better.
The audio quality on the K750 is far superior to the K810 (mainly due to the 750 having mega bass I think) My main criticism of SE phone music quality is its too quiet and I have to have the volume nearly on maximum. |

You would be surprised. I had a K750 and have since upgraded to a K810i.

N95 or something is it? Hardly something most people have. Are they? People I know have Sony Ericssons and Nokias with 1 to 2GB cards. They are the most popular. I think I know one person with an N95 - and he complains that it's slow!
tend to stick with the 1 GB card that it came with. |

Having avoided I-Pods for years (used a creative MP3) I decided to buy a top end one about a year ago, and for hte money the 80Gb I-Pod was the best value when you looked at what you got.
And now? Would not go back. Not because of the device itself, nice as it is to use. But I-Tunes makes podcast access so much easier. Every morning I can just hook up and get a couple of hours of audio for free. On a wide range of subjects that I like. No other site offers the same breadth of service as I-Tunes does for Podcasts. Don't care for the music side as I've just copied CD's over onto it, but if you listen to a lot of radio shows I would reccomend getting an I-Pod just to meet the world of Podcasting properly. |

Well I took the plunge and bought a 8GB iPod Nano. Have to say I am really impressed, I love the podcast feature, How ever it is a bit small, I'd prefare something a bit more bulky

I have a Sony Ericsson phone and have just aqcuired an Ipod Touch.
Music wise I think the Ipod is of superior sound quality and is alot easier for navigating your music. My main drive for the Ipod was internet access, so getting a music player built in was a bonus. A big drawback of the Ipod is you are stuck with Itunes though. To sum it up , I think the Sony Ericsson phones (K series anyway) lack volume and are okay for occasional music listening. Mine just didnt measure up for being a complete music player and the joystick starts to hurt my finger after a while. |

what hype?
having used several mp3 players prior to ipod 30gb, the ipod imo is the most easy to use, intuitive player ive ever used. This isnt hype, its fact! thats why there popular. I load it with tv progs recorded on my mac and also use it to watch tv progs, films etc... on train. Its also exrtemely versatile. iTunes - again having used previous mp3 players where you had to manually drag drop etc... itunes is a central place that lets u just sync and go. do i look like a tosser using a ipod? no, becasue its a funking mp3 player - how can u look a tosser? I do however laugh at people (well, not out loud) with the white headphones on display as clearly these are rubbish headphones - they just want to look cool, even thou sound there getting from the supplied headphones are rubbish! |

...I've used portable MP3 players since they appeared on the market about a decade ago: I remember upgrading my Rio from 64Mb to 128Mb of space and being delighted with all the extra room ![]() However, I was relatively late to the game on iPods, starting off with a 5th Generation video iPod. I too had the attitude that they were overpriced, overhyped machines and avoided them like the plague. It wasn't until a friend demonstrated some of the great features that I converted into the iwh0re I am today. Firstly, the iPods are still the most aesthetically pleasing range of MP3 players I've ever used; my 'iPod Touch' has only two buttons, and yet can do an enormous range of multimedia tasks very easily. Secondly, the iPod range was conceived with music in mind, and therefore adapts itself as necessary: you want essentials on the go, get a 'Shuffle'; you want a jukebox, get a new 160Gb 'Classic'. A mobile phone won't provide you with such flexibility always compromising characteristics (like storage capacity and battery life) off against each other. Thirdly, if my iPod runs out of juice, I can still make phone calls with my mobile - a big plus in my books. I have the option to charge one, or the other, or both, whenever I want without having to worry about my phone dropping dead mid-call. I'm sure that having an Sony Ericsson W880 has its advantages at times, but its like comparing anything else in life - there are always differences that are positive and differences that are negative - it's whether you're happy with the end result that counts. |

where do u dj? do u mic house? Are muggers really risking 5 years in prison to nick someones £49 Shuffle because they spot the free earbuds? I find it highly dubious. (by the way what on earth is "mic housing"? |

a gd tip is to have a cheap £10 mp3 player in ur pocket in case u are mugged you can hand over the cheap mp3 player. alot of the time people have the pod cabl running outside into a outside pocket which is easy pickings. |

You say carry a cheap player too, well the shuffle is an iPod and is also cheap... a thief could not tell if you had a £40 shuffle in your pocket or a £300 iPhone as the white earbuds are the same, pretty much everyone has the white earbuds now, hell I own about 6 pairs, you can get them free off Apple if u go on their website and own an iPod, I wouldn't say iPods are a big mugging target or have been for many years, maybe when they first came out and cost a fortune and were very rare, but everyone has them now. To be honest anyone who has a decent iPod probably doesn't use them anyway, I replaced mine with some £60 white seinheiser ear buds, much nicer. Unless (I'll ask you again to be sure you didn't miss it) you have statistics or a source to back up your claims? |

Well you're a bit of a fibber then aren't you, because earlier in the thread you said your phone uses 8GB card without any problems - in a phone that can only take up to 2GB!
Come back when you actually know what you're talking about. He said he uses an 8gb card in it, but a lot of people stick with the 1gb card that comes with the phone. The 880 takes 8gb cards just fine. Thats how it reads to me. Quote:

![]() Thats not when they appeared on the market! First one I got was a CD based MP3 player. Imported from the far east, terrible battery life and tended to skip rather easily but it played MP3's! Still got it floating around somewhere I think. There were no players with on-board memory around then .... eeeeeeee, when I were a lad ...... ![]() I was used to 700mb of CD space so didn't bother with the early 64mb/128mb players ..... my first memory based one was a massive 256mb! |

I spent loads upgrading it until the battery casing bust open

My Sony E phone is far too fidgety for me to even use it as a music player.
My Touch is simple to use and does what I command it to do. Plus it looks damn sexy. And it's as slim as anything. Makes Kate Moss look fat. P.s. I have no problem with using Itunes..... I much prefer it to say.... Windows Media Player... Urgh... That was one of the reasons why I got an Ipod... To aviod WMP and that annoying sonic sync software as well. |

Don't know what kind of parallel universe you grew up in, but MP3 CD players came along a few years after the dedicated players

Dates on the 'net suggest 2000 which would be about right. Guess I must have ignored the smaller flash memory ones (32mb/64mb ..... why bother! lol) and the bigger hard drive based ones cost about as much as a car back then. Never mind, I'm happy in my parallel universe ....

I always enjoy a good iPod vs Rest of the World debate
![]() Never understood the whole iPod thing - sure it's an aesthetically pleasing looking device. But the sound quality is decidedly average, the battery life is simply not impressive, the maintenance costs are much higher than other players, the locking in to iTunes is not ideal, and they are not the cheapest things around. I have a Sony NWZ818 and apart from there being no software locking in, 33 hour battery life, superior sound quality due to a few sound enhancements, excellent earbud phones - and cheaper too. (wish it had a slightly larger screen I guess!) |

My iPod can use iTunes which means I can:
Buy 6 million songs Rent thousands of movies Buy movies Buy TV shows Buy videos Free podcasts. Transfer legally from DVDs that include digital copies Show all the content on my iPod or Mac / PC or my Apple TV I don't think anything else can compete in content. |
