hxd770/hxd870 watch other source whilst recording digital

Before I spend the next week searching through various forums can someone please put me out of my misery.

It appears that if i record anything on my hxd770 from any source (external set top box on L1 / internal DTV / internal analogue) I cannot watch any of the other sources. (Except for passing through the external set top box).

I had hoped to be able to record from the external box and then use the internal DTV tuner as normal.

Am i missing something?

Thanks

As you say, you can record from the internal tuner and 'pass though' an external box in order to watch that whilst the recording is in progress.

However, if you want to record from the external box then the DVD recorder locks on to that and you cannot then watch the internal tuner.

All DVD devices work like this - it's only possible for the machine to record from one source at a time, and they are not designed to pass through their own internal tuner whilst recording from an outside source.

Why not buy a dirt cheap external Freeview receiver and hook it up to a spare SCART channel on the TV? You can then watch Freeview whilst recording from an external box, which I presume is a Sky box.

To be honest, how often will this be a problem?

You can watch a PAL DVD/VCD/DivX file while recording but that's it.

thanks for the replies.
It is actually just a normal freeview box that i have connected to it. With the recorder being able to change channel on the other box i had hoped to be able to do away with a remote. (the other remote is a little damaged).
Never mind, thanks again.
