I would probably also go for a Region A player, while the release date, price and features for movies are far more even now than compared to when DVD appeared it still favours the US market.

Why does an internal transformer make it able to run off both supplies? Usually it would be a wide input range switch mode on the input (ok a switch mode will have a transformer hidden in it but not what you normally call a mains input transformer), having a mains transformer would usually mean either single voltage or switchable voltage (115/240). I'm not surprised it will run both, I'm just surprised by the internal transformer reference which would make it less likely to.

P.S I would be amazed if it didn't have a switch mode rather than transformer inside in this day and age.

Sorry bobcar,

I've cleary mis-understood the method, but the PS3 will work off both supplies.

I think I'm going to buy while I'm in Texas in March. I'll test the PS3 in my hotel, just in case. The guys on the Gaming forum inform me that as long as I un-pack it before bringing it back, I won't have to pay tax.

So by March my home will be dual format.
