I also think, though - and apologies if this has been discussed to death elsewhere, I've been avoiding some threads - that I think 5 dances each is STUPID. Last year's final I was supporting Mark and I loved the result and I was still sick of the sight of both of them by the end. Why can't we have 3 dances each and fill up the time with pro dances or even dances from Gethin, Letitia, Kenny - and even Kelly if she would? It would be a much better show and fairer to Alesha and Matt and I can't believe the idiots at the BBC didn't learn from last year.

But I do wish them both every luck and I hope they both dance at their absolute best.”

Are we sure there WILL BE five dances? Could this just be a rumour. I believe Kelly and Brendon will be dancing and they must have lots of time fillers. They might even get Mel B to do a set with one of the pro's ()

Tess said at the end of yesterday's show that each couple will do five dances.

They did it on DWTS intersperced with the story of the series and I thought it worked well.”

On DWTS, didnt' they have it that they picked their favourite dance, the judges picked their weakest dance, and they danced a free dance? The rest of the show was filled out with other stuff.

I thought that worked very well.

Last year, there was relatively little that was new about the dances, as I recall - Mark and Karen reused their Samba and VW routines and the show dance was their cha cha with lifts. Still, I think it's just too many to perform on the night.

Dances to be performed, sort-of listed here.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/strictlycomedancing/howtovote/

Can anyone remember whether in last year's final the judges' scores were taken into consideration or was it a pure public vote? Only asking because this year the judges are scoring, and then there will be a leaderboard with 2 and 1 points awarded. 2 and 1 points will then be awarded based on the public vote.

The afore-mentioned URL says:
"The votes from the public and scores from the judges will be added together and the couple with the most points will be announced the winner." but fails to say what happens if both couples get three points. Do you think that the Beeb are leaving it open so that if the points are equal they can force a dance-off with the judges having the final say of who the winner is?

In previous years the public vote has always been weighted in the final just as it was in previous rounds, and so effectively the public choose the winner.

If the judges give 2 points to A and 1 to B, and the public disagree (B gets 2) then the scores are equal at 3 each, the public score has more weight, B wins. If the public agree, A gets 4 points and B gets 2 in total - A wins.

I can't imagine the Beeb changing this, I suspect they only really kept the dance off this week because it had been scheduled for months. The shows next week would surely just not have time for a dance off, and the dancers will already have performed 5 dances. Plus, the public would be very pissed off indeed. So I think it's unlikely.

Hi Sarah,
My question about a dance-off was slightly tongue-in-cheek.
I did presume that in the event of equal scores it would be based on the public vote, but knowing how manipulative the Beeb and judges have been this series I wouldn't put anything past them!

Seems to me it doesn't really matter what anyone here thinks - the format is already decided! Let's just enjoy it
Last year I thought both couples did amazingly well and certainly didn't look worn out at the end and I could never tire of watching Mark and Karen (still enjoying the repeats on you tube) how can you be true fans of the show and complain about it so much??

I'm not sure, but I know they only did TWO dances in the main show, the third dance was in the results show the next day. I know that SCD the dances are spilt over the two shows, but it'll still be 5 dances in one day which to me is too much. I also think the VW group routine is rubbish with only two couples.
