TV/DVD Button on HXD770 remote?

Hi, this may seem like a daft question but what exactly does this button do? I've read the manual but all i seem to get is a slightly grainier image when set to TV and a softer image when set to DVD.

Many thanks

Also, I have just noticed that the TV displays AV1 when the recorder is set to TV and AV1 RGB when the recorder is set to DVD.

I have never fully understood the scart in/out arrangement on this Panasonic CRT TV. Could it be that in the TV position i am some how watching the output from the TV's AV1 which is actually the same as the input but at a slightly lesser quality?

Very confused...........

Update: It seems to swap the recorders output between normal composite video and RGB. Why do we need this?

I've finally sussed it out. If the tv is not scarted over to the recorder pressing the tv/dvd button switches it to the recorder and back. Great.

What i was doing wrong was using the av button on the bottom right of the remote to scart the tv over. Pressing the tv/dvd button after doing this simply switches the output from the recorder between video and rgb.

I guess that ties up with what the manual says about smartlink and setting the recorder to output video from output 3 to ensure smartlink works.

Good question, so I legged it downstairs and tried it - as you say, it doesn't do anything when watching TV or when switched to HDD, but with a DVD in place, and with the Sony switched to DVD it seems to do one of two things.

With a shop-bought DVD, it does indeed bring up the play menu, and with an archive DVD in place it starts playing it (you get to see the play menu by pressing Title List instead)

BTW, on my remote it's under the TV/DVD button.

What is actually does is nothing very clever.

It raises the voltage on PIN 8 of the SCART on the HDD/DVD towards your TV. 12v = 4:3, 6v = 16:9

Your TV senses the voltage on the SCART input and switches the TV to that source.

The fact that a TV on detecting the voltage on PIN 8 my attempt to use an RGB input rather then composite is down to the TV designer and not down to HDD/DVD design.
