I think the expert commentary was very complimentary of Matt's Waltz. Maybe you could try the Greytop's thread? It should be there.

Austen1984 I've also been trying to find out what the expert commentary said, since I've been trying to understand what I missed in Matt Di A's waltz (and that is not getting at Matt since I genuinely loved some of his previous dances, especially his salsa and AS). I have learnt to dance a proper ballroom waltz but am still not great at picking up on the technicalities when I'm watching the celebrities dance.

I tend to agree with bendymixer in that, although I thought it was a good waltz, I thought there was a lack of sway and general fluidity of movement (including in his rise and fall), although bendymixer explained it much better.

However, I do think this is one area where it is difficult to compare the male and female celebrities, since the male professional lead can make the female look much better than she really is.

I really liked Matt Dawson's waltz last year.

It's not a little bit, it's a lot. There's lack of performance on his face, it looks like he was thinking what come next, which is what the judges criticise him many weeks ago. Now he had a horrible week the week before so even the bad thing has become acceptable. or even 'fantastic'

My brother who is very neutral (but this series was leaning towards Gethin) I rang him for his opinion on the night. He said the waltz of Matt was good but grossly overmarked 9's at a maximum. He said to look at vid and when I did had to agree with him Matts rise and fall was coming from his knee bending and straightening and not from the action of his foot, Sway was virtually non existent - If Craig is to bring up that Alesha missed some closed feet in her Quickstep (have looked at vid a few times and can't see it ) then surely the lack of the most fundemental part of the waltz Rise and Fall should have meant he didnt warrant a 10?

It was a good performance from him, but if a missed closed foot meant Alesha was not given a 10 by Craig then it should have follwed lack of basics in Matt's waltz should have meant at least the same”

I agree, how did you rate Geth's AT ?

Thanks you, Sarah!

Darren's own words about Matt's Waltz: Great Rise and Fall...

Surely, that says a lot?

Thanks sarah-flute. It doesn't tell me as much I'd hoped though, since it uses phrases such as "much better" rather than "best", but I suspect that such understatement is Darren's style!

I know it's not the theme of this thread but here goes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJjJ9N_XZrQ

Darren said: Not one of them deserves to go tonight...

I'm actually very surprised with the question of this thread. There must be at least half a dozen of threads criticising (or bashing as you put it) about the 4x10 on Saturday night. Should you have done a little research before you post a new thread.

Most of the RBCs have erred on the side of caution and been interesting but less informative than they could be IMO.

I think the point of the thread was to say "Matt got a perfect score because his waltz was really good" unless I missed summat...

On the emotional side of things, Matt's dance did connect with me, but I do genuinley think, seeing it live, and seeing it on a TV screen plays a big part in things too.

Just a thought.

Like with V&F walz a few weeks ago, that was stunning, and i'm sure if i was there on the night i would have been moved to tears, but the camera work, the fact that its on TV ect. Meant that i could not see all aspects of the dance and enjoy it as fully as possible.

If anyone see's where im coming from.

Are you sure there is NO rise and fall from the feet? I saw that he perfectly mirrored Flavia's 'rise and fall' from the feet (as well as from the knees), I thought you were a dancer (and I am not)!”

Watch the vid the foot is flat for alot of the dance and sway - come on !!! and yes I am a dancer!!

Darren also said it was very different when he saw it performed live (I presume during rehearsal) and he said it was AMAZING.

He ended by saying, Very beautiful, REALLY nice Waltz!
