Does "knowing" the dancers put you off them at all?

Just thinking.
Vincent's liTHp drives me bananas.
Sorry, VinTHent.

So when I see him dance I just can't take him seriously. Same for Matt Cutler and Ian being so camp! When you hear them speak. And now I know about the real Tony Beak.

I think it destroys their mystique a bit - appearing on TV and TALKING! And all this rubbish "investigative" journalism.
What d'you think?

Where d'you draw the line between natural curiosity and ruining their aura?

Anyone else gone off someone for "personal" and not dancing reasons?

I suppose you could say that about just about anyone who appears on telly, but glossy and expensive mags that specialise in nothing but cheap gossip about celebs (and so-called and wannabe celebs) are among the best sellers, so presumably there are plenty of people who do want to know about their fave celebs.

As a dancer, I've known Anton, Matt Cutler and Ian for years and Matt & Ian are 2 really lovely guys. Yes, they are gay - so what?

I enjoy watching them more because I know a little bit about them. In fact, since SCD started, I sometimes get more excited about supporting the professionals than some of the celebrities they're paired with. So in other words, to answer your question.... no!

I suggest you don't watch ballroom or Latin if you're not a lover of "camp".

Are you saying Anton is gay as well?

I disagree with the OP. I think their personalities, quirks, warts and all, and what endear me to them.

Not a homophobic thing as I too am gay.

It's just that in the context of the dances you have to believe the couple are "together" and, having heard Ian and Matt C, I just can't go along with that.

This is the "blokey" thing that (don't anyone think I like him and his pickled walnuts!!!) Len yaks on about. And I do think the guys need it. Especially given the chiffon, sparkles and lace they get sewn in to!

But it is possible to manage oomph and lycra at the same time.

We don't really know much about any of them really (unless your a dancer and have seen them).

I liked seeing Ian and Camilla on Songs of Praise last night they onky got a few minutes with Aled but you still got a sense of who they are and whats important to them at Christmas time.

Shame. I wish I'd seen them.

I know we don't really know them. Hence the inverted commas.

It's what happened when the royal family started to be filmed "at home". They became ordinary.

I think the dancing is easier to appreciate when you aren't thinking - Oo, he's a petulant child. Oo, she's such a wimp. Or whatever...

I guess I'm just too superficial.

I'm not a fan of Brendan's dancing and I think it's because i'm not a fan of Brendan!!

I know it was a simple typo and this is way off topic, but can I just say I LOVE the word "onky" !!

I'm going to try and use that as often as possible!

Right, sorry about that, back to the dancers..............

I really don't get the problem with Matt and Ian. Ian did one of my all time favourite dances with Zoe in their tango, and I don't think it was camp in the slightest. Matt's routines with Alesha have been believably romantic in the ballroom and their latin, though not quite so good as their ballroom has been sizzling at times - I saw their AT with a relative who asked if they were sleeping together.

Just because some, like James and Brendan seem determined to out-manly each other, doesn't mean that the others are less so by comparison. Dancing involves a certain amount of acting, and they can pull it off.

I like Vincent , and think he is a brill dancer, but the minute he opens his mouth I cringe. I know you are all expecting the next bit... I cringe everytime I see Karen Hardy, I don't really know what it is about her, I find her very smarmy and too cloying to be real. The camp never bothers me in the least, but I must admit I do like bad boy Brendan.

Personally I'd say Matt C is VERY masculine on the dance floor - his pro paso of a few years back proved that to me first. He has great chemistry with Alesha and the two of them manage to pull off sexy and sensual together even though they are just friends. It's all acting and performing and he is very good at that.

The funniest thing is the connections

James married to Ola
Matt C used to be married to Nicole
Brendan used to date Camilla
Vincent and Flavia are married
Darren and Lillia are together

That only leaves Ian, Erin, Karen and Anton but I bet even they have been with someone in the above!

I didn't know V+F were married... I know they're a couple, but are they really married?

I thought it was Darren and Lillia that were married...

I was not 100% sure about Darren and Lillia but I'm sure Vincent referred to Flavia as his wife. I maybe mistaken!!

I'm the same. I think Brendan is the one who probably suffers the most from being 'known' outside of the dancing.
I personally have enjoyed getting to know the dancers a bit more- Matthew Cutler really seems to have been brought out of his shell by Alesha and because of this I'm beginning to notice what an incredible dancer he is....

I think you *are* mistaken! Darren and Lilia are definitely husband and wife and Vincent and Flavia are just together...

well I watch because of the pros this year is my first year watching and it is because of Ola I think she really is amazing and I love getting to know her more nothing about her annoys me and now that I watch it I like the other pros too James, Anton and Matt C but Ola is my fav

I adore Matt C's dancing - he's just better than the others, it's particularly noticeable when you see them all dancing together

he is very masculine on the dancefloor - I totally believe their relationship and it's only my wise old head telling me that it's never gonna happen

Not exactly. I don't care if a person is gay or what their name is, etc etc. But if I don't find a dancer to have an appealing personality, I'm unlikely to like their dances, which is probably why I have yet to like a single thing Darren has done. I just can't warm to him.

As far as 'romance' on the floor goes, I find Matt C and Alesha's the most believable yet.

Oh has Matt C split from Nicole?

Brendan was with Camilla for 9 years & they were engaged before Natasha came along.

No, Anton isn't gay, although he is rather camp!

I personally like it when I know a bit more about people, when you see them in the training VT's on ITT or backstage etc and you see that they are funny or shy or whatever, it makes them more *real* in a way, and you realise that although they are amazing at what they do and are "celebrity" dancers, they are also just people too, who are probably just as nervous about messing up on the floor as the celebs. And I like this about them, makes you get behind them as well as their partner.

I think that with each series the pros are becoming celebs in their own right.

I wasn't massively keen on James Jordan because of the way he treated Georgina, but I am the first to admit he is totally amazing in the pro dances. I do wonder, however, if his previous behaviour combined with Gabby's almost clinical execution of the dances hastened their demise?

At the same time, I think Kate stayed in longer because a lot of people were actually voting for Anton to stay in (I have seen many admit it!).
