Maybe we will (for a change), now the Ofcom is investigating the x-factor problem and apparently BBC made a mistake in their announcement on Saturday that the line will be closed on 9:30pm. There are complaint that I've hear some forumites said they'd sent to Ofcom. If Ofcom get involved they might have to public the result and even make a public apology, as we have seen many this year.

I didn't think that was obvious, especially not against Matt, who'd just got Craig's first 10 and a standing ovation from Len. I voted for the first time this week, (and am slightly smug ) and not because last week was a shock. Last week I knew she was safe because there was no way she was going to be in the bottom two with Gethin. Letitia was no contest, nor was Matt at the time.

It is preposterous that there was a dance-off when there were only 3, or even 4 people, left in the show, regardless of how the votes went.

I had not voted all through the series in a tiny protest at the judges vote, but last week I and family threw 20 votes to Gethin including on Saturday night.

But I can see now that the nature of the dance off means at this stage unless the person you voted for is called first you may as well have not bothered.....

Please please scrap the dance off next series (if there is one) and give us back a voice. I don't feel our votes count for anything now.

But many on here have said what that they did what I did - which was to vote for Alesha because she'd been in the dance-off the week before.

The dance-off always galvanises supporters into action.

Alesha has a lot of support - I think more than Gethin - because she's better basically, and everyone knows it.

I had never voted before in this series - in fact I don't think I've ever voted - except maybe for Zoe (can't remember).

This is a very house-wife dominated forum & just because everyone's obsessed with him on here - doesn't mean that everyone is.
He's not as good a dancer as either Mark or Colin. And he's equal with Matt. It could have gone either way depending who pulled off he best performance on the night.

I'd be happy for the judges to decide it, but I'd rather see them do it than have it done behind closed doors.

I always want to see the best dancers stay & the worst dancers go. If the judges had decided it we'd have got rid of the dross in the first weeks & seen some really good dancing.

All because of a DJ and an actor that nobody really took to last year going out maybe a couple of weeks sooner than they might have done, we have all this upset and drama.

No - last year Matt got to the final & he really wasn't that good. It was a really dead final. Both Louisa & Emma were better.

The year before it was *won* by a crap dancer when the final should have been Zoe & Colin.

If house-wives can't be trusted not to think with their south ends instead of their north ends then the judges veto is the only way to go.

Gabby & Penny was a very difficult decision & was much of a muchness as it was between Gethin & Matt.

If the Beeb wants our charity money then give us the final say!

Everyone's biased - the judges, the viewers. Everyone has their favourites & the styles of dancing they prefer.

At least the judges are biased towards good dancing & make their decision on the quality of the dancing.
(Not who they fancy & who's so crap it's funny to put them through).

I think Aleisha has been by far the best dancer of the series (perhaps leaving aside Kelly) so to me, it was quite obvious that she'd get through to the final, and rightly so. I still think the judges would've put her through if she'd been in the dance off, though it might've gotten awkward for them if she'd been up against Matt. In that instance, they'd probably have cited her consistency (even though we know they "only base it on the dance off". Ha!). It would have been ridiculous to put Matt through above Aleisha after his dreadful performance last week. Generally, I think the judges know who they want to go through, and will come up with reasons to justify it, one way or another.

As I said, it was obvious to me that Aleisha would go through, but that might just be because I wasn't that emotionally involved in whether she went through or not - it's easier to be objective or a little bit cynical when you're not that invested in the outcome. If you and other Aleisha fans weren't certain about it and voted for her as a result, then of course you're right that she probably did get a lot of votes from fans this week.

Ha - I hadn't thought of it like that before, but that's a really excellent point. It's why the result was really pre-determined as soon as Gethin was bottom of the leaderboard. It always did seem silly having a dance-off with only three people left, and you've clearly spelt out the reason why - it's sort of circular reasoning!

What's missing is any calculation that suggests the effect was more than, say, 1% of the vote.

It's likely that high-multiple voters are greatly overrepresented on forums like this one.

In any case, how many is the large number in this forum? (I have so far seen only one person say they voted 50 times.)

And how many votes are cast in total?


Is there any evidence that there's a significant floating vote that responds to the quality of the dance?

It often seems to be the other way around: a kind of anti-judge vote that is in effect for the poorer dancers. It's not a "sympathy vote" such as Matt supposedly had either.

I can't believe that the judges aren't aware of the public vote and quite possibly get some very strong 'guidance' from the producers as to who they are supposed to eliminate.

Ratings are so important that I can't believe they would be allowed to dispense with a wildly popular contestant at the expense of someone who wasn't getting public support. I suspect therefore that Gethin's and Matt's votes were quite close together, though the exact order is anyone's guess.

As for yet another anti-climactic two-person final, all they need to do next season is plan for a double-elimination one week close to the end (maybe at the quarter final stage for maximum drama). If no one dropped out then we'd get all the excitement of a double elimination and if someone did (which is highly likely given that number of slebs) then we could all just carry on as normal and still have a 3 person final.

If they were doing what you suggest, it could kill the show if it ever came out, as well as damaging the BBC.

So I don't think they are doing it.

If the leaderboard had been reversed in the public vote (ie Gethin top, Alesha last) then Gethin would have been the one who was automatically safe, as the resulting scores would be equal (4 points all round) and the viewers' vote trumps the judges vote is the scores are equal. So there was always a chance, even if it wasn't a strong one, just as there was a chance that Alesha could have ended up in the dance off (if the above scenario had happened, or if Matt had come top with the public).
